Obituary For Steward Clifford "Dooley" Barber

Mr. Clifford Bruce Barber was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew and Fannie Mae Fallings-Barber on March 16, 1942, in Lamar County, Georgia. Clifford departed this life on Saturday, March 23, 2024, one week after celebrating his 82nd birthday. Clifford Barber, affectionately known as “Dooley” was the youngest of six. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Willie B., James, Robert Lee, and Melvin Barber, and one sister, Yvonne Hardaway.

Clifford joined Mount Sinai C.M.E. Church at an early age where he served faithfully receiving numerous awards and recognitions, including the Torch Award, Perfect Attendance Awards, and the Black History Month Proclamation from Barnesville City Council addressed to himself and Mount Sinai C.M.E. Church. Clifford also served as a Steward until his earthly departure.

Clifford attended Barnesville High & Industrial School, after which he went on to work as a machine operator at Smith’s Shop (Smith Furniture Manufacturing Company), Aldora Mill (General Tire), and later he became the owner and operator of Barber Service Station. Barber Service Station was one of the last full-service stations in Barnesville, Georgia, providing highly convenient pick-up services, three grades of gasoline, and general auto services, including oil changes and auto detailing.

Clifford was active in his community serving on the Superior Court Jury Commission, the Accountability Drug Court, Southern Rivers Energy Nominating Committee, a Life Member of the Lamar County NAACP, and a member of the Lamar County Democratic Committee.

Clifford leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of 56 years, Rubie Adkins Barber; two daughters, Latesha and Rhonda Barber, both of Barnesville, GA; beloved granddaughter, Toriana Barber of Barnesville, GA; two sisters in law, Charlotte Barber of Barnesville, GA, and Mary Barber of Orlando, FL; two brothers in law John Adkins of Dayton, OH, and Charles (Agnes) Adkins of Gray, GA; loving nieces and nephews; as well as a host of many relatives and friends.
