Wayne Herbert McNeil, 61 of Jacksonville, Florida, transitioned into eternal life on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at UF Health Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to his parents, the late Beverly Ann (McNeil) Lewis and Joseph J. Banks, Jr.
Wayne spent his formative years in Harrisburg, PA and graduated from Harrisburg High William Penn Campus in 1980. After graduation, Wayne moved to Jacksonville, Florida. He retired from EverBank of Jacksonville, Florida as a mortgage specialist. He became an active member at Pleasant Grove Elevation Church where he served in many capacities.
He was affectionately known as the COO (Chief Operating Officer) at his church. He also took great pleasure in his involvement in the food distribution program ministry. He spearheaded Pleasant Grove Elevation Church, joining forces with the Black Church Food Security Network, which was established in 2015 by Dr. Heber Brown in Baltimore, Maryland, with the idea of connecting black farmers with black churches to resolve own food insecurities and health disparities. This relationship allowed them to pipeline thousands of pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables into Jacksonville, Florida.
Wayne’s hobbies included traveling, gardening, learning different languages, shopping, taking his boat out on the river and spoiling his dog, Rocky.
As Wayne departs to join his mother, Beverly, in eternal life he leaves behind loving memories. He is survived by his father, Joseph Banks, Jr. of New York; his sister, JoAnne Edwards (Michael) of Jacksonville, Florida; his nieces, Dahila, Alana and Adrienne of Jacksonville; his maternal aunts, Irene Fleming, Minnie Linen (Henry) and Ruby Lewis; his maternal uncle, Benjamin McNeil (Juanita) of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and a host of cousins and friends.
Wayne’s loving, generous spirit will live on through the lives that he has touched.
A Homegoing Service will be held Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 am with a viewing starting at 10:00 am at Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, 704 N. Front Street, Steelton, PA.
