Mrs. Maxine Davis passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024.

A Funeral Service to honor her will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 12 noon; Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church 631 E. Florida Street Greensboro, NC 27406. Visitation is 11:30 am

Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park 3600 O' Henry Blvd. Greensboro, NC 27405.

Maxine Dargan Davis was born on August 30, 1935 in Wadesboro, North Carolina and departed this life on March 22, 2024 in Clayton, North Carolina.

Maxine Dargan was the youngest child of Carl and Josephine Liles Dargan. In 1936, her parents made the decision to relocate Maxine and her siblings Nathaniel Dargan(deceased) and Hazel Dargan Fitts, to Greensboro, North Carolina for a better life. Shortly after the Dargan family moved to Greensboro, NC, the family joined Trinity
A.M.E. Zion Church where Maxine remained a faithful member until her death. She accepted Christ as her Savior early in life and work tirelessly as a servant of God as a lifelong member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church. Known for her “take charge” manner and ability to “get things done”, Maxine often called upon these skills while serving her beloved Trinity as President of the Greensboro District Lay Council; Quarterly Conference Secretary; President of the Parent Body Missionary Society #1;
Chairperson of the Capital Improvement Campaign; and a Class Leader. In 1999, she was an inductee in the Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church Half-Century Club.

Maxine attended Greensboro public schools and graduated from Dudley High School in 1953. Following Dudley, she matriculated at North Carolina A&T State University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Education in June 1957. While attending N.C. A&T State University, Maxine was introduced to her future husband of 62 years, Robert L. Davis (deceased). After a one-year courtship, they were married on November 9, 1957. Maxine and Robert were blessed with two daughters, Robin Davis Whitaker and Toi Davis Wilson.

Though Maxine later earned her Masters degree in Business Education at University of North Carolina - Greensboro in 1971, she fully epitomized the meaning of “Aggie Pride:” Not only did she attend A&T State University, she spent her entire career of forty-three
(43) years at the university, retiring in 1999 as the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance/Business Services. For many years, Aggie Homecomings became a tradition at the Davis’ home. Maxine made sure delicious food and fellowship
were waiting for family and friends that stopped after the homecoming game.

Anyone who truly knew Maxine, knew that she was inspired and motivated by four loves: God, Family, Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated®. Maxine was a proud member of Beta Iota Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated® where she served for over 50 years. She held several leadership positions within the sorority including Chapter President, Graduate Advisor, and Co-Chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. Maxine was a woman of God; the matriarch of her family; a faithful A.M.E. Zion soldier, and a sister to many in her sorority. She gave unselfishly of herself and, in return, she was loved and adored by her family and friends.

Maxine remained in Greensboro until her health began to decline in 2020, at which time she relocated to the Raleigh, NC area to be closer to her oldest daughter. Maxine Davis was predeceased in death by her parents Carl and Josephine Dargan; brother, Nathaniel Dargan; and her loving and devoted husband, Robert L. Davis.

Maxine leaves to cherish her precious memories – a sister, Hazel Dargan Fitts of Richmond VA and two caring and devoted daughters - Robin D. Whitaker (Michael) of
Raleigh, N.C. and Toi D. Wilson (George) of Marietta, GA. She also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Michael Whitaker II and Michelle Whitaker Reaves (Josh) both of Greensboro N.C., as well as Davis Wilson and Lindsey Wilson both of Atlanta, Georgia. In 2019 and 2024 she welcomed into the world her two great-
grandchildren, Joelle and Jackson Reaves. Maxine also leaves to mourn a host of nieces and nephews including Charles Lindsay (Cheryl), Randi Fitts Claytor (Vernon),
Raymond Fitts (Symea), and Pamela Dargan Douglas (John) and many adoring family members and friends.
