Benjamin H. Cooper

06/30/1948 - 03/16/2024

Benjamin H. Cooper, whose life was a beacon of strength and love, passed away Saturday March 16, 2024, surrounded by the presence of his family. Affectionately known as Benny, he was born on June 30, 1948, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the union of Walter and Rose Crim Cooper.

Benny was a graduate of South High School and entered the United States Army upon graduation. Benny's life was shaped by his active military service in the Army during the years of the Vietnam War from 1968 to1972.

His honorable discharge allowed him to return to his beloved community, where he built a life centered on love, family, and friendship. On August 4, 1974, he united in marriage with the love of his life, Carmella Traylor and they created a home filled with love, warmth and care.

A valued employee of General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio, Benny dedicated 37 years of his life to his work, forming lasting friendships and leaving a mark through his exemplary service in the auto industry. However, Benny's dedication to his job never overshadowed his love for life's pleasures -spending time with family, fishing, playing pool, and engaging in spirited card games with those closest to him.

Benny’s enduring love will be sustained by his loving wife, Carmella, his children James (Tawanna) and Keith (Brandy) all of Youngstown. His memory will forever be cherished by his siblings, Stanley Cooper, Tammie Cooper, Randy Cooper, and Terrance (Tammy) Bandy. His legacy will be honored through his eight grandchildren Janique, Khari, Shanice, Brianna, Deja, Jayanna, Keith, Gianna and one great grandson Michael.

Fondest memories are retained by his sisters-in-law Brenda Logan, Stephanie White, Annette (James) Pack and brother-in-law Tyrone (Deatrice) Traylor. He shared an unbreakable bond with a score of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Taking his place among the ancestors, Benny was embraced by his parents and daughter Yolonda L. Cooper who preceded him in death.

As we prepare to bid farewell to Benny, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and the love he shared with us all. May his memory forever shine bright in our hearts.

In his honor, a public viewing will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave, in Youngstown, Ohio, starting at 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life service at noon, officiated by Rev. Lewis W. Macklin. The recognition of his service to humanity will conclude with full military honors and committal ceremony.
