Obituary For Bessie M. Garrett

The funeral services for the late Mrs. Bessie M. Garrett, who departed this life on March 5, 2024, will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from the St. Paul Baptist Church in Isabella, Georgia. Reverend Dr. Marvin Cuffie will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will follow in the Shepard Memorial Garden Cemetery in Sylvester, Georgia.

Mrs. Bessie M. Garrett was born on August 25, 1948, in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. George and Hattie M. Jackson. She graduate from J. W. Holley High School in 1968 and moved to California where she worked in healthcare. Later, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she met and married Mr. Willie F. Garrett on December 15, 1972. The couple stayed together for fifty-one years until her passing.

Bessie and Willie had three children, Tracy, Anthony, and Darrell. She also had a special relationship with her stepdaughter, Sandra Anderson. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Bessie worked at Grady Hospital, Georgia Baptist Hospital and Veterans Administration Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, before becoming disabled.

Bessie was a gentle and kind woman who always supported her loved ones in their time of need. She cherished her family and was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Sadly, Mrs. Bessie M. Garrett passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at her home in Lithonia, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her sister, LaGail Jackson and brothers, Jimmie L. Jackson, James C. Jackson, Willie C. Jackson, James Junior Jackson, and Henry L. Jackson.

Mrs. Bessie M. Garrett is survived by her three children, Tracy Jackson Purvis (William) of Houston, Texas, Anthony Garrett, Darrell Garrett, both of Lithonia, Georgia, and her stepdaughter, Sandra Anderson (Thaddus) of Stockbridge, Georgia.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Cori D. Lee of Warner Robins, Georgia, Robert D. Mulkey III of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Maya R. Anderson of Hilsboro, Oregon, Toni Jai Garrett, Antonia Starr Garrett, both of Ellenwood, Georgia, Treasure A. Mulkey of Houston, Texas, and David T. Anderson of Stockbridge, Georgia.

Additionally, she leaves behind four sisters, Ruthie M. Davis, Mary Ann Jackson, and Dorothy N. Jackson, all of Sylvester, Georgia, Susie M. Green (Clinton) of Griffin, Georgia; She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, William Garrett (Ruby) of Atlanta, Georgia, Donald Garrett (Lynn) of McDonough, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Sandra Parks (Mark) of Warren, Ohio, Helen Jackson, Catherine Jackson, both of Sylvester, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
