Dr. Jacqueline Brown Jackson

Dr. Jacqueline Brown Jackson, 90, of Sylvan Hills Cove, Memphis, TN, transitioned into eternal life on March 3, 2024 at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, TN.

She was born in Harrisburg, PA, the daughter of the late John W. and Wilma D. Wilson Jones. A graduate of the former Steelton High School, Dr. Jackson retired as manager of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development Program and regional coordinator in the Division of Federal Programs at the Pennsylvania Department of Education. She formerly taught English language arts and served as English department head at the Steelton-Highspire High School, was a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, Shippensburg University, The University of Pittsburgh and received a certificate of completion in Advanced Church Ministries from the Evangelical Training Association under the Tutelage of Bishop Ivy Hopkins, pastor of Grace Temple Church of the Living God in Steelton; was a life member of both the NAACP and The Penn State Alumni Association; a founding member of the Capitol Area Music Association; a former board member of the Open Stage and the Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association and she was a life member of The First Baptist Church of Steelton.

Dr. Jackson was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori L. Brown Elery, formerly of Country Club Hills, IL; her granddaughter, Monica L. Ellis Howerton, formerly of Landover, MD and her brother, John W. Jones, Jr. of Fayetteville, GA.

Surviving is her husband, Calobe Jackson of Harrisburg, PA; three sons, Mark E. Brown of Memphis, TN, Bryon Jackson and Terrell Jackson, both of Harrisburg; two daughters, Vida M. Brown Johnson, of Memphis, TN and Erica Jackson Davis of South Carolina; a sister, Barbara A. Mitchell of Albuquerque, New Mexico and a brother, William H. Jones of Harrisburg. Dr. Jackson also leaves to cherish her memory thirteen grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren, 3 great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024 in the Sanctuary of her church, The First Baptist Church of Steelton, 1850 S. 19th Street, Harrisburg with viewing and visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery.
