Obituary For Jerrelyn Jackson-Veasley

Jerrelyn Jackson-Veasley, daughter of Jerry & Ellen Redmond, was an extraordinary woman whose indomitable spirit touched the lives of countless people. Jerrelyn passed away on February 28, 2024, at the age of 56 after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Born on July 18, 1967, Jerrelyn embraced life with unwavering determination and radiated warmth wherever she went. Faith played a central role in Jerrelyn's life. Her unwavering belief in God was evident in her actions and interactions with others. Jerrelyn followed in the path of her grandmother, Viola Wragg, playing the piano for her home church, “Buffalo United Methodist Church,” until her health failed. Her devout faith served as a beacon of hope and guidance, enabling her to weather the most challenging storms with grace and determination.

From an early age, Jerrelyn showed immense talent and sheer passion for basketball. Her skill on the court was unparalleled, and she left an indelible mark as a high school and college basketball star. Through her agility, tenacity, and unwavering dedication, she inspired many athletes, both on her teams and beyond. Her love for the game never waned, as she continued to coach and mentor young players long after her playing days.

Driven by her love for education, she pursued a career in teaching and later transitioned into administrative roles. Her contributions as a dedicated and inspiring teacher were immeasurable guiding generations of young minds toward learning and growth. As a principal and administrator, she fostered an atmosphere of inclusivity and encouraged students to embrace their potential.

While excelling in her professional life, Jerrelyn was a devoted mother to her three children, Jerrell, Jerren, Jerra. She instilled in them the same dedication, compassion, and resilience that defined her character. Jerrelyn's love for her children was immeasurable, and she fiercely championed their dreams, supporting them unconditionally in their endeavors.

As a daughter and a sibling, Jerrelyn cherished the bond of family. She was the epitome of reliability and loyalty, continuously lending a helping hand or an empathetic ear. Her presence filled family gatherings with laughter, love, and a shared sense of purpose.

Jerrelyn's involvement in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Boys & Girls Club, and NCNW was another testament to her selfness nature and her commitment to uplifting others. As a sorority sister and public servant, she dedicated countless hours striving to make a positive impact in the lives of those in need. Her sisters and the community cherished her as a pillar of strength always ready to extend a hand of support.

But perhaps her greatest triumph was her victory over breast cancer, a battle she fought with colossal bravery. Throughout her chemotherapy treatments, surgeries, and endless doctor visits, Jerrelyn's spirit never faltered. She demonstrated to all those around her the epitome of resilience and hope. Her story became a beacon of inspiration to countless others fighting their own battles.
