Obituary For William Guilford, Sr.

William Guilford, 72, passed Monday, February 19, 2024 in Phenix City, AL.

Funeral service 2:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at St. Paul Greater Love Ministries with Rev. Freddie Evans, pastor, eulogist. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. EST on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Public viewing from 3 - 5 p.m. EST on Friday, February 23, 2024

William Guilford, Sr. was born on June 22, 1951 in Abbeveille, AL to the late Minnie Louise Richards and Willie C. Guilford. He departed his life on February 19, 2024 in the privacy of his home surrounded by his loving family.

William decided to give his life to Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was baptized by and under the leadership of Pastor W. L. Wormack. After Pastor Wormack passed away, Rev. W. B. Simpson became his pastor.

William continued in his life following Christ by becoming a Sunday School Teacher. In 1976 he was chosen by Pastor Simpson and members to be added to the Deacon Board of the Church, later becoming Chairman of the Deacon Board. When he left Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Hal Reynolds, he and his wife, Geneva, relocated to Phenix City, AL connecting to Saint Paul Greater Love Ministries under the leadership of Pastor F. Evans. William remained faithful until his health declined. Pastor Evan checked on him every week...Thank you.

William was educated in the Henry County School System. Graduating from Henry County School System in May 1969. He joined and served in the United States Army from 1970-1972. He later joined and retired from the 851st Army Reserve Abbeville/Enterprise, AL. He continued his education at Sparks Technical College in Eufaula, AL while being employed with AAA Cooper Transportation prior to retiring from the company in Columbus, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie C. and Minnie Guilford; sister, Willie P. Hoskey; brothers, Morris Guilford, Harrison Guilford and Archie Guilford; sisters-in-law, Martha J. Danzey, Anne J. Brelove and Luverne Brooks; brother-in-law, Aaron Hoskey and Robert Fryer.

He leaves to cherish memories a loving wife, Geneva Guilford; one daughter, Kimberly (Darryl) Guilford and a son William (Cassandra) Guilford, Jr.; goddaughters, April Whighams Ducksworth; one sister, Majorie Fryer; tow brothers, Jimmy (Delores) Guilford and Marion Guilford all of Abberville, AL; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Brenda Anthony, Juanita Brown and Dorothy Neal and a host of neices, nephews, other family members and friends.
