Ms. Gwendolyn Bostick Lucas, was born on Thursday, February 25, 1943, to the late Mary L. Cross and Earnest D. Porter in Alachia County, Florida. She entered into rest on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia.
Until her health failed, Gwen attended New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia, where she was baptized.
She worked in the field of banking for several years and retired as an AAFES Human Resource Specialist in 2010. Gwendolyn married the late Willie (Smiley) H. Burks in 1961 and had three sons and one daughter. She later married Eugene Lucas Jr. in 1981 and had one daughter. After living in Monterey, California, Syracuse & Buffalo, New York, and Bamberg, Germany, she made her home in Atlanta, Georgia.
Gwendolyn leaves behind to cherish her memory, three sons, Reginald Burks, West Palm Beach, FL, Richard Burks, Atlanta, GA, Michael Burks, Buffalo, NY; two daughters, Lakisha Davis Flagg, Mandeville, LA and Simaya Lucas Boyd, El Paso, TX. Eight grandchildren, Roderick, Reginald Jr., Jenea, Richie, Mia, Micaela, Taylor and Aydin; and five great grandchildren; siblings, Freddie (Rosalee) Bostick, Gloria (Frank) Small, Kathy (John) Melton, Earnest Porter,
and Patricia Porter; lifetime friend, Patricia Terrell, and a host of truly beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at First Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2040 Ebenezer Drive, Hephzibah, Interment, church cemetery. Public viewing from 3 pm to 6 pm, at Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home, 3618 Peach Orchard Road. (706) 790-8858
