My father-in-law was an amazing man with a huge heart. I loved him from the first moment I met him. We, my kids-his grandchildren, Joshua and Dylan-are deeply saddened by his passing. He did so much for the community and so many who needed him, and he did it all so joyfully. I hope to achieve the levels of emotional intelligence, empathy, and generosity that he demonstrated so well for us all. We love you and miss you so much, Popeye!! Rest well!! And give Sam a great big hug for us!!

Cousin Lucinda: My sister and I recently said, we haven't seen or heard anything out of Mr. BARFIELD! SO hurt to hear of his passing. He was such a giant in the working field--bringing so much joy, laughter and heart to situations as well as brought political & social awareness to our attention! May God Give you, the famiy, and the many acquaintances consolation thru it all. You are in our prayers! Valery Frazier Kelley & Family North Harlowe Community.

Alfred was a great man in his own rights. When it was time for relay for life. I always knew I was going to hear from him. Angela he would say, how many tickets you want. He has come through for me when no one else had. When my daughter graduated from the Navy. He gave me the money to go see her. He was always kind and love to joke around, but he was about his business...well Popeye, now you get to see your mom!!! Tell tink and Sam I said hi. Ms. Lou you know I am here if you need me.

Lucinda (and family), I wanted ... no I "Needed" to let you know that your husband was truly loved and appreciated by many. My mother loved him. She was proud of how he tried so hard to support the community in any way that he could and supported her efforts to do the same. He left it all on the field. Now he is resting. His work on this side is completed. Floretta "Flo" Barrett-Campbell

To our dearest family, this is a very sad time for all of us. Popeye was the Ambassador of Goodwill. He loved working for The Relay for Life, The 10/20 Organization plus so many other organizations all centered around helping people. That's a very good testament to be remembered by. We loved our dearest cousin and we will miss him. For all acts of kindness extended to him and his family throughout the years, that made him so happy and proud. The good works he so affectionately did from his heart will always be remembered. God will take care of all of us. Starlin and Pamela Summons-Beatty, Durham, North Carolina.

Mr Barfield, always was working for the community. He enjoyed providing meals for the holidays. He was a cheerful giver and always could find me with a huge smile and always a joke. He inspired many to vote and be active in community issues. The last time l saw him my Son & l rolled him in his home although fragile & weak he still laughed & joked like Popeye always did. I left there wondering When Will I See You Again. Rest in peace my Friend. Hope to see you on Peaceful Shores. Mitchell
