Obituary For Mr. Tommy Lee Watkins

Mr. Tommy Lee Watkins known to many as β€œLamp,” the son of the late Alphonzo and Catherine Watkins was born on May 13, 1946, in Anson County, and peacefully departed his life on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Hospice Haven in Rockingham, NC.

He Attended Richmond County public schools. On May 14, 1968, Tommy enlisted in the United States Air Force. Tommy received an honorable discharge as an E-3 in 1970. He worked for many years as a Police Officer for the Mount Gilead Police Department and retired from Piedmont Components in Mt. Gilead, NC.

He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was preceded in death by daughter Valerie Bridges, brother James Watkins, sister Dorletha Hall, and granddaughter Jessica Calloway.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Vera Watkins; two daughters, Angela Watkins of the home, Adajaiah Watkins of Mt. Gilead, five sons, Jerome Morman of Mangum, NC, Timmy Watkins of Morven, NC, Terrill Watkins of Wadesboro, NC, Tommy Watkins, Jr. and Elijah Watkins of Mt. Gilead; One brother Bobby Watkins of the home; One Aunt Bobbie Bowden of Mt. Gilead; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; eleven grandkids; seven great- grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Homegoing Services will be on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 11:00am, Mount Airy AME Zion Church, Mount Gilead, North Carolina. Interment will be in the family plot of the Church Cemetery.

The Watkins Family will greet family and friends on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 10:30-11:00am at Mount Airy AME Zion Church.

The public viewing will be on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 1:30-5:00pm at Smith Funeral Home.
