MR. HOWARD DOUGLAS VARNELL - Age 73, of Chattanooga, TN passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 30, 2024. He was born February 10, 1950 to his late parents, father, Thomas Douglas Varnell and mother, Bettye Sue Lingerfelt Varnell. He was a dedicated deacon for Faith Baptist Church, Chattanooga, TN. He worked for Combustion Engineering for 33 years, Sather’s Trucking, and retired from FedEx as a Truck Driver. He was an avid bowler and golfer and was very competitive at both sports.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Foley Varnell, parents, Thomas Douglas Varnell and Bettye Sue Lingerfelt Varnell, sisters-in-law, Linda Louallen and Vickie Varnell, and brothers-in-law, Johnny Davis and Tommy Louallen.

He is survived by his loving children, Rebecca (Kevin) Morrell and Richard (Jennifer) Varnell; seven grandchildren, Logan Varnell, Landon Varnell, Lane Varnell, Taylor Barber, John Barber, Thomas Morrell, and Kayla Morrell all of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Robert Varnell of Chattanooga, TN; sister-in-law, Willie Mae Butler, Virden, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Service will be Friday, February 2, 2024 at 12:30 P. M. at Faith Baptist Church, 8834 North Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, TN, with Pastor Tracy Daniels officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 P. M. – 8:00 P. M. at the church and Friday from 10:00 A. M. – 12:30 P. M. at the church. Interment; Lakewood Memorial Gardens East.
