Mr. Raythan Algernon Jones, also known as "Preacha", graced this world with his presence on May 7, 1962 in Buffalo, NY. He departed this earthly life on January 10, 2024, at the age of 61. Raythan was a bright student, attending School 37 and School 24, where he excelled. He continued his education at the Occupational Training Center, mastering various trades. His thirst for knowledge led him to The Pioneer program, where he packaged merchandise for local businesses. He was shaped by his time at Commerce Day Hab. This program equipped him with the necessary tools to attain and uphold independence and essential life skills, ultimately leading him to make significant contributions as a valuable member of society. An example of his determination and resourcefulness was when he faced a delayed bus and, with no funds in hand, hailed a cab to transport him to work. His resilience and drive will be dearly missed.
At an early age, Raythan was baptized and devoted his life to Christ. He was a faithful member of Refuge Temple of Christ and held various self-appointed positions, as he often stated, "that's my church". Coming from a family of musicians, Raythan was proud to share his musical gifts with the church, playing the drums, guitar, and harmonica. Those who were fortunate enough to witness his sermons can attest to his powerful preaching. If he wasn't at church, you could find him in the front row of a musical program, dressed impeccably in a sharp suit or a freshly made t-shirt. Raythan never missed an opportunity to remind others of his birthday and made sure everyone knew it was his special day. And of course, he always expected his $5.00!
Raythan is preceded in death by his parents, Bishop Nathaniel Jones Sr. and Mattie Jones. He leaves behind five sisters: Nathelia Land (Dennis), Elvira Northington (Calvin), Katrina Jones, Veryl Williams (Bart), Gloria Hatten (Anthony), and one brother, Nathaniel Jones Jr. He also leaves behind one godson, Calvin C.O. Northington, numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and a large extended family and circle of friends, who will all miss him dearly.
Raythan's legacy will live on through his love for God, his passion for music, and his sharp fashion sense. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest in peace, dear Raythan.
