I will have forever value Mrs Lewis. I spent countless hours with Mrs.Lewis and the State Representative Barbara Cooper in meetings and on the phone. Those meetings were like being in college. They were filled with knowledge and experience. I am going to miss her.I know that Mrs. Lewis is now walking on the streets paved with gold. Great woman met her years ago in my 20,s was just herself at all time 30 yrs later I still say she was an advocate for educating Memphis children and their well being RIH MRS LEWIS

I was in Ms.Lewis's room in the sixth grade at Georgia Avenue Elementary, back in the early 70's, she was not my teacher long because she left for a principal position, but for the little she was my teacher she was the best. I have seen her out from time to time, and I would always thank her for being a very good and caring teacher. Sorry for your loss. Rita D. Rogers

Mrs.Lewis was my principal at Lauderdale Elementary. She loved us just like we were her children. I can count the times, she spanked me with her paddle Mr. Green Jeans. After her paddling, she was going to talk to you and tell you how much she loved you. Later on in life, I asked her to be on my board of directors for an non profit I was starting and she gladly accepted. After I had to discontinue my organization because I was sick, she told me to never give up on my dreams and to continue to work hard. Mrs. Lewis thank you for being a Mother figure to all of your students at Lauderdale. You will always hold a very special place in my heart. God has an Advocate Angel in Heaven. You will be missed by the many Lauderdale Elementary Students and the countless other people whose lives you touched. Rest In Peace Principal Lewis

Sara taught me HOW to teach in 1974-75 and 76. She knew so much, cared so much for both her teachers and her students and their families. From an outsider's viewpoint (native Floridian and back here now) who spent many years in Memphis and teaching in its schools, I think that your Sara was a driving force in building a large middle class in Memphis over the last 40+ years. She saw very clearly what needed to be done and did it with all her might. She was a treasure to her city and state, and I am so grateful to have known her and benefitted from her encouragement and assistance I am devastated at her loss.
