Augusta Watts was born on April 30, 1926, and peacefully transitioned from this life to be with her Heavenly Father on January 17, 2024, at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation Recovery Center. She was born in Anson County to the late Beanie S. Marshall.
She attended and graduated from Morven Colored High School in Morven, NC. Later, she moved to High Point, where she began working as a loving domestic worker at High Point Memorial Hospital. Despite the demanding nature of her job, she always found joy in cooking and baking.
She became a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church, where she served well. Later, she transferred her membership to Williams Memorial CME Church, where she was well-loved by many and loved in return. Augusta, affectionately known as Gussie, had a soft-spoken personality and loved dressing up. She was particularly fond of hats and became quite known for it. Augusta also held her church dear to her heart, served her church with diligence, and remained a faithful member until her health began to decline. Augusta continued to inspire others with her unwavering commitment to her faith. She was also a member of the United Star of St. Luke, Chapel #3.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Cecil Sturdivant, and Ernest Raley, one sister, Alean Cox, and her longtime companion, William Watts. She has left behind a legacy of love and her memory will always be cherished by those who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sisters, Hester Cunningham, Vernice Givens, and Ementress Marshall; one brother, Anderson Marshall (Frances); god-daughter, Patricia Smith; special friend, Gilda Watts, and Brenda W. Sayres; special niece, Stephanie (Anthony); nephews, James (Frankie) Travis and Ramod—also, several other nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Williams Memorial CME Church, 3400 Triangle Lake Road. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
