Obituary For Mr. James Junior (Bill) Rorie

Mr. James (Bill) Rorie, Jr., son of James Thomas Rorie, Sr. and Glendora (Faulkner) Rorie, was born in Union County on January 8, 1945. He departed this life on January 14, 2024, at Atrium Health (Union) after a sudden illness.

Known to most as Bill to others as “Nut Roll”, he grew up in Union County, where he attended school. He graduated from East Union in 1964. He was married to his beloved Shelia Harris Rorie, who preceded him in death, for 27 years.

Bill was known for his hard work and love of cars. Bill could always be found near a car or machinery working mostly as a mechanic. He spent many years working at RP Scherer where he excelled and later worked in agriculture. After a sudden life changing illness that caused his retirement, Bill kept his love of working on cars, helping out his friend, Clarence Howard at his shop and keeping his friends and family cars running.

Bill confessed Christ early in his life at Nicey Grove Baptist Church and later joined Greater Grace Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and Church Photographer and took on many other roles.

As said before Bill loved all things relating to cars. He could often be found working on them, watching drag racing, NASCAR, going to car shows, taking photos and watching auto repair shows. Bill also loved the outdoors. Often being found with his friend and adopted brother, George Curtis Parker, they could be found near a pond bank fishing or in the woods rabbit hunting. You could often tell the two friends were together by the sound of them arguing/picking at each other and laughing.

Preceded in death by his wife, Shelia Harris Rorie, his mother, Glendora Rorie, his father, James Rorie, Sr. and his sister, Lucille Rorie.

Bill is his survived by his daughter, Beverley Mungo (Michael) of Monroe, NC and his three sons, Von Huntley (Sherry) of Monroe, NC, Mickey Harris (Bridget) of Rochester, NY and Jamey Rorie of Wingate, NC; one foster brother, Albert Staton, one sister-in-law, Shirley (Curtis) Parker of Wingate, NC, his faithful dog, Peanut; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and countless special nieces, nephews and adopted youth. He was known to everyone who knew him as “Uncle Bill”.

The Homegoing Services will be on Friday, January 19, 2024, 1:00pm, Greater Grace Community Missionary Baptist Church, 880 Hasty Road, Marshville, North Carolina. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Church Cemetery.

I met Bill through Shelia when she was Mother's home health aid. Within a week she was family & told everyone that I was her "sister". The kids & I miss her terribly & know Bill did too. Bill shared his homemade kraut with me several times & my husband who left for Heaven 4 weeks ago this Friday shared our garden veggies with them. Not a finer man around than Bill Rorie & I know Shelia was waiting to hug him when he walked through Heaven's gates Sun. just a day after her birthday & she had probably already gave a big old hug to my sweet husband too. Jamey, Mickey, & the rest of the family are in our thoughts & prayers for comfort & peace from our Lord. <3

I am so sorry for the loss of your love one. I was thinking of when Bill and his son made candy apples for Poplar Springs MBC kids on friends and family day. That was so nice & thoughtful of him. Prayers for the family 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️ Arrie Brewer Perry
