Ms. Nezzie McLendon, the daughter of the late William and Laura Caraway McLendon, was born on April 14, 1942 in Wadesboro, NC. She departed her life on January 13, 2024 at her home in Wadesboro, NC.
She confessed her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of East Rock Ford Missionary Baptist Church (Wadesboro, NC) where she once was the Assistant (Children) Sunday School Teacher and later a member of the church choir. Years later, she became a member of Divine Unity House of Restoration Ministries (Wadesboro, NC).
Ms. Nezzie was loved by all, from the young to the old. Ms. Nezzie brought so much love, joy, and laughter to those around her. Her laughter and her smile were contagious. She was known for that head full of jet-black hair, apart from that one little streak of grey in the front. To everyone’s surprise, she never used hair dye! Her accolades did not consist of a high school diploma or a college degree. Let it be known that her accolades consisted of a faithful servant of God, true love for her family and friends, a great cook, a provider, a protector, a fashionista, and a petite lady with a lot of personality. Although Ms. Nezzie didn’t have children of her own, she lovingly cared for and raised many of her nieces and nephews with no complaints.
Ms. Nezzie loved going to church, getting her nails polished, sightseeing, joy riding, and taking trips to different cities and states with her sister and family.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: William, Billy, Lewis, Thomas, and Amos McLendon; five sisters: Helen McLendon Crawford, Rebecca McLendon, Clarissa McLendon, Elaine McLendon Maye, and Annie McLendon.
She lovingly leaves to cherish her memories: her niece, Latosha Boggan, who took excellent care of her in the home with love and kindness; one brother, Mr. Larry McLendon of Wadesboro, NC; two sisters: Mrs. Sallie (Clarence) Boggan of Charlotte, NC, and Ms. Sadie Billie of Lexington, NC; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Francis (Amos) McLendon of Thomasville, NC, and Mrs. Mickie (Lewis) Gilbert of New Jersey. Raised in the home: two nieces, Eveatte McLendon Flowers, and Shantel McLendon Wall; two nephews, Lewis (Sylvia) McLendon, and Samuel McLendon, both of Wadesboro, NC.
Also left to cherish her memories are her faithful and loving caregiver of nearly twelve (12) years and good friend, Mrs. Martha Lewis; Mrs. Betty Marshall, also her caregiver, good friend, and supporter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, January 20, 2024, 3:30pm, in the Chapel of Smith's Funeral Home, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in the McLendon Family Plot at Westview Memorial Park, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
The public viewing will be on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 2:30-5:00pm at Smith Funeral Home.
The service can be viewed on zoom.
