Obituary For Rita Jean Cassetty

Rita Jean Cassetty, 76 of Bellevue, TX, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 10th, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Funeral services will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13th, at the First Baptist Church of Bellevue, with Pastor Robert Slayton officiating.

Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 12th, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie, TX.

Rita was born in Bowie, Texas on August 8, 1947, to Rue and Mary Lou Wells. She started school in Bellevue, Texas before moving to Bushland to her grandparents’ farm. She continued her school years at Wildorado Elementary and Vega High School where she graduated in 1965.

She accepted Jesus as her Savior at 12 years of age at Palo Duro Baptist Church.

She married Gene Foster Cassetty in Friona, Texas, in 1965 and later that year welcomed a son, Gene Bryon Cassetty, into the world. With Gene’s electrical work, they moved all over the United States and lived in New Mexico, Arizona, Indiana, Michigan, and Louisiana as well as in Amarillo and Bellevue, Texas until his retirement. After returning to make their home in Bellevue, Rita gave birth to a daughter, Rita Lynette in September of 1972.

Rita was known throughout the area of North Texas for her upholstery business which she operated for more than 30 years. She was meticulous and her greatest joy was making something beautiful from antique furniture or furniture that was well beyond its time.

She was a woman of many talents. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed making meals and desserts for her friends, family, community, and church. Even when the cancer began to take a toll on her body and she could no longer do many things, she still delighted in making her special dishes for her family.

She was a Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Bellevue for many years.

Rita was a wonderful caregiver to her parents and mother-in-law as they aged and could no longer be home alone. Even as she battled the pain of bone cancer, she always put her family, friends, and community first.

Rita remained upbeat, optimistic and strong bringing joy to others through her sense of humor and ever-present faith in our Lord.

Her grandchildren Brandt, Devon, Cooper, Blakelyn and Easton were her greatest loves. Bragging on them was her favorite pastime, and she wasn’t shy about telling you of their latest adventures. The recent birth of her great-grandchild, Everleigh, brightened her life beyond measure.

She will be greatly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. We should all live by her example of loving and serving others.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Cassetty; her parents, Rue and Mary Lou Wells; daughter, Lynette Cassetty Erwin; and sister-in-law, Carroll Wells.

Rita is survived by her son, Bryon Cassetty and wife Michelle of Bellevue; son-in-law, Bobby Erwin of Bellevue; grandchildren, Brandt Cassetty of Bellevue, Devon Cassetty of Canyon, Cooper Erwin of Bellevue, Blakelyn Erwin of Bowie and Easton Erwin of Bellevue; great-grandchild, Everleigh Penning; brother, Tommy Wells of Hereford and sister, Marla Davidson and husband Jay of Decatur; and numerous nieces and one nephew.
