Susie C. Holmes Hairston, 100, of Martinsville, VA, departed this life on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Martinsville Health and Rehab. She was born in Virginia May 4, 1923, the daughter of the late William Robert Hairston, Sr. and Elizabeth Bullard Hairston.

In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Hairston and Evangelist Roxie Schoefield, and four brothers, William R. Hairston, Jr., Ned Hairston, George Holmes, and John W. Bullard.

Susie attended Temple of Christ and retired as a cafeteria worker after many years of service.

Susie leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Julia Mae Penn of Martinsville, VA, and Nora Hairston of Ridgeway, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA. The Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
