I’ve had some good days; I’ve had some hills to climb
I’ve had some weary days and some sleepless nights;
But when I look around and I think things over,
All of my good days out weigh my bad days;
I won’t complain...
KEVIN LAMAR BARNER, affectionately known as “Bonzino” and “Barner” was born December 7, 1979 at Community Memorial Hospital to Connie J. Barner and the late William H. Barner. Kevin departed this life suddenly, at the age of 44, on January 2, 2024 at VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA.
At an early age Kevin was baptized and joined Union Hill RZUA Church, Baskerville, VA. He also sung with the Jerusalem Baptist Church Children’s choir in his early years. Kevin loved to sing. When he attended church and the opportunity presented itself, he would sing his favorite song, “I Won’t Complain”. He received his early education in the Mecklenburg County School System and graduated from Park View Senior High in 1998. Upon graduation, Kevin entered the U.S. Army in 1999 where he served for a brief period. He held various jobs throughout his life.
Kevin loved everybody. He never considered anyone a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. He was well-known in South Hill and everybody was his “cuz”. The family would often refer to Kevin as the “Town Gazette” because if you wanted to know something, you could just ask him as he knew everybody and everything. Kevin was a self-made business man; he loved detailing cars and making music CDs, and he was very good at both. He loved dancing and watching football. He was an avid Washington Commanders fan. Kevin also loved a phone, whether he was playing games or just randomly calling people.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Howard and Hazel Joyner and his paternal grandparents, Tommie and Manervia Barner.
Kevin leaves to cherish his memories: his loving mother and confidant, Connie J. Barner of South Hill, VA; beloved sister, Denise L. Barner of Washington, DC; four aunts, Marie B. Wills of Washington, DC; Ann Barner of Richmond, VA; Ivy Joyner of Chesterfield, VA and Myra (Gerard) Pugh of Emporia, VA; two great aunts, Mae Dell (Joseph) Parks of Morristown, NJ and Shirley Roberts of Dover, NJ; two devoted cousins, Genardra Pugh of Gaithersburg, MD and Gerail Pugh of Emporia, VA; God-brother, Demetrius Skipwith; devoted friends, Bracey Jackson, Michael Bugg, Cedric “Big Ced” Feggins, Crystal Wynn, Cheryl Craddock, and Marshall Walker, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Forget unkind words I have spoken
Remember some good I have done
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I’ve had loads of fun
