Mrs. Ernestine Sims passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

A service to honor her will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 10:30 am; Providence Baptist Church 1106 Tuscaloosa St. Greensboro, NC 27406. Visitation is at 10 am.

Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 North O' Henry Blvd. Greensboro, NC

Ernestine Sims, the oldest of five siblings, was born February 28, 1940 to Susan and Henry Bannerman in Pender County, NC. Ernestine departed this life on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

Ernestine attended Pender County public schools. After graduating from high school, she went on to study at the NC College at Durham, now known as NC Central University. After earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree, she landed her first job as a teacher in Fredericksburg VA.

During her time in VA, she would be introduced to her future husband, Roosevelt Sims and relocate back to NC. They married August 17, 1968 and settled in Greensboro NC. By this time, Ernestine was teaching in Alamance County. There she would eventually become the school librarian and established a career that would last for over 34 years before retiring. During these years, she would have one child, Marcus, and she would earn the degree of Master of Science in Education - Educational Media from NC A&T State University.

Ernestine accepted Christ at a young age. As an adult she joined Providence Baptist Church in Greensboro NC. Over the years she served in various roles. Among them were Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, Church Librarian, member of the Alert Circle, Girl Scouts, Community Service Guild, and Singles Ministry.

A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Ernestine was initiated into the Greensboro Alumni Chapter. While healthy, she participated faithfully however she could. She especially enjoyed sponsoring and partnering with the Jabberwock participants. She was extremely proud to be a member of this wonderful organization.

Ernestine’s hobbies included reading and completing crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed traveling with her sisters, and tending to her flowers. But her greatest joy of all was spending time with her two grandchildren, Josiah and Joselyn.

In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by her Husband, Roosevelt Sims, sister, Azzielene Biggs, and brother, Henry Bannerman Jr.

She is survived by her two sisters Arleatha Seals, Vanessa Love, son, Marcus Sims, daughter-in-law, Sheri Sims, grandson, Josiah Sims, granddaughter, Joselyn Sims, sisters-in-law, Geraldine Sims, Brenda Bannerman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
