Funeral service for Dessa Kindred, 79, of Opelika, AL, will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 650 Jeter Avenue, Opelika, AL, 36801 with interment in Garden Hills Cemetery, 1218 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL, 36801, Reverend Clifford E. Jones, Pastor, Reverend Arthur Thomas, Eulogist

Mrs. Kindred, who passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 at her home in Opelika, Alabama, was born September 11, 1944, in Chambers County, Alabama.

Public viewing will be Friday, December 22, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Mrs. Kindred will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.

Precious memories will forever be cherished by: four children, Vincent Kindred of Opelika, AL, Dr. Rhonda (Yolonda) Kindred of Atlanta, GA, Jonina (Melvin) Kindred-Stringer of Birmingham, AL and Dr. Nicolas Kindred of Washington, DC; six grandchildren, Deja Heard, Joseph (D’Asia) Kindred, Shantel (Antonio) Gooden, Daniel Kindred all of Opelika, AL, Adrian Kindred of Atlanta, GA and Journi Kindred of Auburn, AL; nine great grandchildren; her siblings, Ben (Kathy) Middlebrooks of Atlanta, GA, Avery Lee (Mary) Askew of Opelika, AL, Mary Lee Gray of Atlanta, GA, Jimmie Lee (Ruth) Moore of Flint, MI and Bessie “Tina” Peoples of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and special friends.
