Anthony A. Kowal, (Tony)
b. May 10, 1930, d. Dec. 11, 2023
He joined his wife Lottie in heaven, after a year of age-related decline from a fall & hip surgery. He loved his 3 daughters, Chris Kowal (Susan) of Durham NC, Laurie (Al) Trank of Mendham NJ, Helene Kowal (JoJo) of Durham NC. He leaves behind a younger brother Marty Kowal & his wife Joann, and he was predeceased by a brother, Al Kowal & sister-in-law Rosina Kowal. He will be very missed by his 4 grandchildren, Al, Caroline, David & Sarah, and their spouses, and he became a great grandpa x3 this year. He also will be missed by many nieces, nephews & friends who remember him fondly.
He grew up in Passaic & Clifton NJ, where made his home with his wife Lottie, raised his 3 girls, and was a loving father. He enjoyed the Jersey shore, NYC, going to the Met Opera and museums, painting, old movies, studying history, travel, good chocolate, and his 4 grandchildren. His great joys were singing, painting & yes, whistling. He was a boy soprano at age 10 & then a tenor for choral groups in NJ. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, in post-WW2 Germany. After Lottie died in 2004, he moved to Franklin NC, near Chris, in a cozy cabin that he loved. Then, Helene joined him there until they moved to Durham for better healthcare & to be by Chris & Sue. He was beloved, had a great smile, and kept his sense of humor & love of opera through it all. Take a bow... Bravo!
