Obituary For David Brooks Banks

Spartanburg, SC: David Brooks Banks passed December 10, 2023

Guest Book

Dave Banks was a greast friend, inspiration, source of wisdom, and just an all around positive force in my life at a rough time. I will always remember his sermons, our runs and bike rides together, our Sat nights eating pizza and watching Godzilla movies! He accepted me for who I was at a time when I sometimes struggled to do so myself. His strength and kindness personified his beliefs about how to live, and I know I'm only one of many who were blessed by knowing him. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Thank you Dave.

David was the hospice chaplain at the nursing home I work at for years. He was generous with his time to the residents and even brought his beloved Rottweiler to a patient that raised them. Condolences for your loss. Peggy Raines

I was so sad to hear the news of Dave's passing. My sincere condolences to his family. Dave was full of life and love for others! I will never forget his love and kindness extended to me during a very difficult period in my life - his heart was big and his love and care so genuine. I will also never forget how he stepped in to conduct the funeral services for my daughter-in-law after she committed suicide. The family was in total chaos, and Dave stepped in and conducted the most beautiful service - including singing "It is Well With My Soul." Such a beautiful voice. I am so thankful that God knows each of us and our circumstances even better than we do. Praying for peace, comfort and understanding for his family during this difficult time David Kidder

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I will always carry the most beloved memories of Dave in my heart, particularly his beautiful singing voice and enormous sense of humor. Dave and I first met when I was in junior high school. We were both members of a contemporary Christian singing group named the Sounds of Love. He had such a beautiful tenor voice and when he sang, one had a sense of being drawn closer to God. One of the funniest memories I have of Dave is when he invented a character name "Al-J" -- half man, half seaweed. He would put on an extremely funny show in the swimming pool with that character and had us laughing all the time. My brother Gary and I remember going to Dave's house during our teenage years and how kind his family was. During high school, Dave and my childhood friend, Suzy, started dating, which gave us another special connection. We all ended up attending the same university. After graduation, in the summer of 1982, my wife and I were thrilled to have Dave sing "Wedding Song (There is Love)" at our wedding. We know that one day there will be a glorious reunion in heaven and can hardly wait to hear Dave's angelic voice singing with the heavenly choir. My wife Clemen, brother Gary, and I send our deepest sympathies to the family.

I remember Dave fondly. He was in a singing group with me in high school—The Sounds of Love. We went around singing at various churches in Michigan (near Battle Creek), and even drove up to the North Woods of Minnesota to sing in a church there. Dave was full of unstoppable energy and humor, and constantly had us laughing. I saw him perform as Conrad Birdie in Bye Bye Birdie in the 1970s. He was absolutely amazing in that role! He and his wife Suzy both had beautiful voices. They sang for my wedding in 1982 and did a lovely job. Many condolences to the family for your loss of Dave. -- Laura DeNooyer-Moore
