Richard Alan Burns, 73, departed this life on December 4, 2023, in Palmetto, Florida. He was born on November 1, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York. Richard leaves a profound legacy and will be deeply missed by his loved ones, family and friends.
Richard's educational journey included graduating from East New York High School in 1968 and furthering his studies at the State University of New York at Albany, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1973.
Richard had a fulfilling career in Healthcare IT Consulting, spanning over 35 years. He significantly contributed to companies such as Abbott, Siemens Healthcare, Spacelabs Healthcare, First Consulting Group, and EXP Realty Icon Luxury Group. Richard's expertise and dedication were instrumental in building strong portfolios for these organizations.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard was passionate about golf, music, fine dining, and African drumming. He found joy and relaxation on the golf course, embracing the game's challenges. Drumming allowed him to express his creativity, rhythm, and love of the Conga. Richard was a great orator and loved to tell stories easy to visualize about growing up in Brownsville, Brooklyn; his jazzy days in Detroit; and the relaxing scene of Sarasota.
Richard's memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Helen Burns, and his five children: Guy Burns (Windson-Selem, NC), Tracy McGill (Columbus, SC), Mashama Burns (Albany, NY), Naimah Burns (Houston, TX), and Kabeer Burns (Bowie, MD). He was also a cherished brother to Bishop Thomas Anthony Burns (Barbra) of Columbus, OH, and Paul Burns Jr. "Yaw Owusu." Richard was predeceased by his parents, Paul Burns Sr. and Evelyn Burns (née Ricks), and his son, Shahid Alim Burns.
Richard's love and guidance extended to his grandchildren: Mashama Amisha, Sequan, Kallahda, Masharh, Jada, Javariah, Tatiana, Kalem, Essence, Kamali, and Saamiya. He leaves a lasting impact on their lives, and they will forever carry his memory in their hearts. (is this everyone? If not, may say "..extended to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews."
Richard Alan Burns touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. His legacy will live on through the memories of those fortunate enough to know him.
