Obituary For Ms. Ella Mae Childs

Ms. Ella Childs, 85, of Attalla, AL, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023.

Mrs. Ella Mae Sumpter Childs was born June 26, 1938, in Gadsden, Al, to the union of the late Willie Joe Sumpter and Hattie Mae Robinson. At a young age, Mrs. Childs united with First Baptist Church, Alabama City, under the leadership of Rev. E.L. Gary.

She was a graduate of Carver High School in 1958. She attended College and earned her degree in Nursing. Mrs. Childs was employed with McGuffey Nursing Home Health for 45 years.

Mrs. Childs married the love of her life, Mr. Tommie "Goat" Childs Jr. at an early age. They were blessed to spend 52 years together.

She leaves to cherish her memories to: Four loving and devoted Sons, Tommie Childs III, Attalla Al, Deric (Denise) Childs, Attalla Al, Eric (Ashley) Childs, Birmingham Al, and Greg Childs, Oxford Mississippi; Two Sisters, Mae Frances Butler, New York, and Betty Sumpter, New York; One Brother, James Sumpter Gadsden Al; Loving daughter-in-law, Stephanie Childs; Ten Grandchildren, Antonio Childs, Sierra Childs, Da'Arie (Tevin) Graham, Jaylon Childs, Emani Childs, Cameron Childs, Aja Childs, Deric Childs Jr., Dericka Childs, Chole Terrell; Two Great Grandchildren; Tevin Graham Jr. and Dailee Mae Graham; Special loving Nieces, Andrea (Wayne) Hyde, Atlanta Ga., Tamiko Jordans, Montgomery Al; Special Nephews, Eugene (Vanessa) Childs, Hazelcrest IL., William Bo(Darleen) Graves, Attalla Al, Steric Pluck (Latosha) Jordan, Ashante Jordan, Gadsden Al. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear friends, and a special loving friend, Desi Woodard.

Public Viewing will be Friday, December 15, 2023 from 5pm-6pm, with family hour from 6pm-7pm.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 16, 2023 at First Baptist Church, Alabama City at 12:00 noon.

Interment: Lincoln Hill Memorial Garden
