Obituary For Maxine J. Allen

What a Day of Celebration it was when, on April 3, 1931, Maxine Lavern Johnson (Allen) was born to the late John and Mary Johnson in Cuthbert, Georgia. Now, we celebrate, again... her peaceful passing at home on December 2, 2023 in Stone Mountain, Georgia. She is the youngest of 6 and last surviving child of the immediate family.

She enjoyed her childhood with her 5 siblings, being raised in a small but vibrant community. Maxine got married in 1948, and though the marriage was short, she was blessed from that union with a son, James in 1949. Once that marriage ended, Maxine relocated to Hartford, CT in 1956 to join her brother Hubert in starting a new prosperous life. It was after a short time there that she met the man, Bennie Allen. They were married after knowing each other for only 2 months, having a daughter, the late Cynthia G. Allen in 1957, purchasing a home together, and spending the next 50 years in holy matrimony.

Maxine worked various jobs in Hartford over the years, but caring for her family was and always has been her primary focus. Maxine will be remembered as the most caring, nurturing, and loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt that anybody could ever ask for.

Maxine is preceded in death by her husband Bennie Allen and daughter Cynthia Allen (both of Hartford). She is survived by her loving son James Allen Sr, her four grandsons Reginald Allen, James Allen and Charez Allen (James Allen Sr) and Andre Smith (Cynthia Allen), daughter in-law, Michelle Allen (James Sr) six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Maxine Allen will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.

Professional Services entrusted to Blankumsee, Thomas & Wright Funeral Services of Quitman, Georgia.
