Words cannot express the sadness that Mr. Butlers passing has brought to me. I first met him about 7 years ago when I came to the Shallotte BB&T and over the years, myself and my coworkers have grown very fond of him. He was one of those people who you could just strike up a conversation with at any moment and have a good laugh with. Sometimes you just know when someone has a genuinely pure soul and Mr. Butler certainly did. He will be greatly missed! -Asia Lee

My mother Rachel Williams was Mr. Butler's school secretary for years at Lincoln Elementary. She always left him a cup of coffee on his desk every morning...she was an old school secretary and always took good care of him. She loved him so very much. Last year Mr. Butler came to my Mom's 80th Surprise Birthday party. He gave the most beautiful and touching speech about my mother and then at the end sang "You Are So Beautiful To Me!" There wasn't a dry eye in the place when he was finished. I will always remember that song and the great love he shared with us! He was a beloved educator to his fellow teachers, staff, and support team at Lincoln Elementary School. You are all in my prayers, Wendy Jones Southport, NC

Deacon Joseph Butler, the ultimate Good Samaritan Deacon Joseph Butler was a dedicated Christian soldier. He was a highly educated, respected, loving husband and father, a principal schoolteacher, a Deacon, an Ocean View Association treasurer, and an active participant in local and national politics. He was all the things that most people would dream of. He indeed had a great career. He was an excellent example of what a Christian gentleman should be. He was attentive and loving to his wife; Deacon Butler was made of different stuff—the stuff of Christian legends. Most importantly, he was a humble man who loved Jesus. He was indeed a man of God. After all of his accomplishments, one of the most impressive things about Deacon Butler is that he never forgot his roots. He loved his family and Brunswick County. He will be missed as a dedicated Christian servant. We loved him, but God loved him best. Well done, my good and noble soldier. Take your rest in the heavenly gallery of God. Thanks for being a Good Samaritan who paid the ultimate price trying to give aid and comfort to a fellow brother in distress. May God bless the Butler family during this period of grief. Lovingly Submitted Reverend Michael and Verdell Darby
