Richard A. Meyer

Passed 12/02/2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Richard Allen Meyer,
affectionately known as Rich, who departed this world on December 2, 2023 at the age of 74.
Born on August 9, 1949, to John Charles Meyer and Cecelia Pennell Meyer, Rich leaves behind a
life plush in love, laughter, mentorship, and a sprinkle of sarcasm and wit.

Rich was an alumnus of Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he earned a degree in accounting
that became the foundation of his career, eventually retiring as a Chief Financial Officer. More
important to him than any position, award, or accolade; Rich wanted to be remembered as
someone who gave back more than he took, a sentiment that guided his actions and defined his
legacy. Rich found immense satisfaction in mentoring folks, acting as a catalyst that accelerated
the success of numerous careers.

Life, for Rich, was best lived being experienced fully. While he enjoyed puzzles, reading, and
traveling, the golf course was his sanctuary. A place where his witty banter and pursuit of
excellence found a natural home amongst friends and the occasional, sometimes more than
he’d like to admit, rough.
Rich often collected Ram figures, reflecting his initials and symbolizing strength, a reminder of
the power of resilience and adaptability in the face of life's challenges.

Rich's journey through life was beautifully intertwined with the love he shared with his wife,
Geraldine “Jean” Meyer. Together, they navigated life as true partners, building a family that
became the epicenter of his universe. The heartbeats of that universe were his children and
their respective families; Jason (married to Lori), Trischa (married to Justin), Mary Rose (married
to Dan), Dianne (with James), and John (with Joe). Rich's love extended to his siblings, Jackie
and Doug, while he now reunites with his late brother, Jack, in eternity.

Rich's legacy now also extends to his grandchildren — Sean, 22; Jake, 17; and Tahla, 3. All
sources of endless joy and pride. They shared stories, laughter, and a bond that now extends
generations. At 6’3,” Rich was never above shrinking down to 3 feet tall to let Tahla paint his
nails.

A Celebration of Rich's life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, calling hours will begin
at 9:00 am with the service to be held at 11:00 am at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602
Howard St., Spartanburg, SC 29303.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory, continuing the legacy of giving back that was so
dear to his heart.

As Rich bids farewell, the family hopes he will be remembered not with tears but with laughter
and gratitude for the moments shared. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the echoes of the laughter that defined his journey and the strength symbolized by the family he cherished
so.
