Dear sweet Bernard. I am so very thankful that I was able to see & talk you a few weeks ago. It was so sweet of you to say to me "don't worry about me" But of course, I told you that wasπ. Noah & Tristan still talk about having lunch with you at Olive Garden. We thought Tristan was bothering you because he kept wanting you to look at his pictures. But you were totally enjoying it. Please know that Jennifer, Troy, Noah, Tristan, Kenneth & myself ( your auntie) miss you so much. I'm sure Keith is wanting to give you a haircut π. I know God has his arms around your parents & giving them comfort. We are family . . . Much love Auntie Pam

To be honest, I can't actually remember the first time I ever met Bernard, (though I do know I met him through our friend, Jake). When I think back to when we were kids, he was just always there. I moved away from Gastonia as a kid, but each time I visited, he was always there to hang out. Whenever something was going on, whatever it was, you just knew he was going to be present, be involved, and you were glad to see him. I honestly can't narrow down one single best memory I have with Bernard because he constantly was a part of so many great times and countless conversations of a million different topics. He was a good man who made the world a brighter place with his presence. It truly has been a privilege and an honor to call him a friend for many years. We all miss you, man. -Conner

I'll always remember Bernard and Ali meeting at St. Michaels in Pre-K. The two of them were so competitive! Bernard would get so angry that Ali could run faster!! It was bittersweet to see them off to prom together so many years later. RIP sweet boy! Teri Childers

Never thought I'd be here, writing this in his obituary...Bernard was a wonderful friend from the time we were in early middle school, all the way til now...through moves, life milestones, and tough times...our friendship never faultered. While my memories range far and wide, there are two in particular that stick out in my mind. During 2020-2021 while COVID was running it's course, we all became shut-ins for a while, but Bernard still reached out, would make the drive to my house, social distance while there, but we'd just have great conversation over YouTube videos and even the occasion little bonfire, and laugh like the pandemic we were enduring wasn't even there temporarily. The second, is very recent. Bernard asked if he could ride with my wife and I to Jacob Smith's Halloween Party because he wanted to see everyone and his car battery was dead. We picked him up, had some laughs on the way there, all while he sat in the back seat, playing with my baby son Henry and even holding his bottle to feed him when he got fussy. He will definitely know who Uncle Bernard was as he gets older. I'll never forget the amazing friend and brother he was to me...and so many others. It breaks my heart to even imagine him gone from our lives but I am glad he is at peace from all these struggles. Love you always Bernard, my brother. - Korey G

Bernard was always there as a staple in our friend group growing up and also becoming adults trying to help each other in the best way we knew how. He was such a caring and loving friend. All of us as kids and into adulthood playing games, firing guns into the woods haha, just talking, or needing to settle disputes he was always there. I can remember Bernard having my back countless times as well as many other friends and family. He was never afraid to stand for what he believed, his friends, and family. I can remember playing "manhunt" at Ryan's house as kids and we spent probably an hour searching for Bernard. Come to find out that he was able to get on the roof of the house and lay down. No one even thought of searching there haha I miss those times and I miss you Bernard. We all love you, rest easy brother.

Words cannot express the depth of sorrow we feel without you with us. You were not just a friend but a cherished brother to me who made the most profound impact on my life. I will never forget your ability to make a room bust out in laughter over some joke or comment. Some of my favorite memories are of us sitting around a table playing D&D with your ridiculously over-powered characters. You had such a brilliant mind and I will forever miss you. You were not just some friend to me, I looked at you like you were my brother. This is not goodbye, its just "see you later". Love you. -Joshua G

You have left us way too soon. We still have to finish our video game "professor ". You will live on forever in our memories and in our hearts. Brandon and Cameron

I was privileged enough to meet Bernard through a group of close friends playing football at Martha Rivera park. We were young and dumb at the time, so we were playing full contact football on a soccer field. After playing against each other enough, Bernard and I came to an agreement: he wouldn't try to tackle me (I am a large fellow) and I wouldn't try to catch him (as if I could). Through those games, many things became evident. Our friendship was natural and only set to grow, Bernard was a natural athlete making most of us look bad, but most of all, being a good person came natural to Bernard. He was one of the kindest, most charismatic and genuine people I have had the opportunity to know and love. I am thankful for the time I got to spend with him doing various hobby's over the years, from one end of the spectrum to the other. He was a great person and was loved dearly by countless people. He is missed and will be missed forever. One thing for sure, my kids will know who uncle Bernard was and how great of a man he was for his family and group of friends turned brothers (and sisters). We all love you Bernard, rest easy Coach. -Matt

Bernard's always been one of the guys in our close circle of friends throughout all these years that we've grown up together. I remember when everyone would come over to my place when we were teenagers still in high school, and we'd play D&D and video games until early in the AM on the weekends together. Then we'd just get into whatever trouble we could and goof around with each other until we couldn't hold our eyes open anymore. None of us ever wanted those days to end. And with us, we made sure that those days never did, even if they became fewer and more far between. Bernard's always gonna be our "Coach," one of our best friends, and generally one of the toughest dudes I ever knew. I loved him, and i'm gonna miss him - but more than anything, I'm gonna remember him and go forward with all the awesome memories he was there for with us. He'll never be forgotten. Rest easy, buddy.

I wanted to share a fun memory with Bernard. We would always go disk golfing while at Bonclarken, and one time my frisbee went in this very shallow part of a creek. I took off my shoes and jumped right in, but the mud was very deep and I instantly sunk up to my thighs. I was completely caught off guard and just threw my hands up and yelled, "Bernard!!!" He grabbed my arms and yanked me right out of the creek and we sat laughing for next 10 minutes. To this day it remains one of my favorite memories with him, just hanging out, laughing, yelling, and being the best of friends. I hope this memory brings the same joy to each of you as it does me. - Cole
