Alicia Lanie Madison 68 of Walnut Cove, NC passed Tuesday, November 7, 2023.The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Green Street United Methodist Church, 639 South Green Street, Winston Salem, NC with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Pine Hall Baptist Church Cemetery, 1416 Polo Bridge Rd., Pine Hall, NC.

Alecia Lorraine Hairston Madison was the first born to loving parents, the late John and Vivian Hairston on September 27, 1955 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

While growing up in the church she sang in the choir, ushered and helped with church activities. She was a loving sister of three siblings who she assisted her mother in taking car of, when needed.

She graduated from Jackson High School in South Bend, Indiana and earned an associate degree at Indiana University of South Bend. Nicknamed, “Lisa” for short, went on to have a career in the food service industry where she expanded her talents for the service of people and her faith.

Lisa established a relationship, had a son, married Nathanial Madison and moved to Trotwood, Ohio where she continued to be a blessing to the community. Lisa enjoyed her days as a loving wife and mother. Lisa was a lady who was full of life, independent, strong-willed and ready to take on the world.

Lisa was a dedicated member of Green Street United Methodist Church where she enthusistically taught Sunday School and Bible study. Her dedication and compassion were infectious wherever she was able to share the Gospel.

Lisa went to the emergency room after her dialysis, where they admitted her and took her to surgery to replace her aortic heart valve. Lisa woke up from surgery and was breathing on her own but then suffered a stroke. These pictures are from a happier time in her life before dialysis began breaking down her body, before her accident that broke both legs and wrist and before she began showing signs of dementia. Lisa passed away and made her transtion tohour Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Left to cherish her memories: her son, David A. Hairston, brothers; Douglas S. Hairston Brian K. Hairston and grandchildren; Brayden Hairston, Kiara Hairston, Voctor Gonzalez-Hairston, Davion Hairston and Layla Hairston.

To the Family of Alecia Madison: I am profundly sorry about the loss of "Lisa." We talked weekly and sometimes more often. She always said, "I'm excellent!" no matter what was going on with her. Her spirit was strong and optimistic and she had a song and a scripture to share. We ended our conversations with prayers for each other. My heart aches at this separation! My love and spiritual hugs go deep for David, and for Brian and Douglas and their families, and for Lisa's church family, as well. "I thank my God in all remembrance of you." (Philippians 1:3 FSV) I believe Lisa is now happy and healthy with her mom, dad and brother John William. For that I rejoice. Much Love and God's Peace to you all! Dr. Iris H. Cooley, Aunt (William B. Cooley, Jr, cousin, submitted)
