Obituary For Tanya F. Freeman Glaze

Mrs. Tanya Freeman Glaze, 73, of Phenix City, AL passed Sunday, November 5, 2023 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. (12 noon CST) Friday, November 10, 2023 at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor. Burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. EST.

Tanya Freeman Glaze was born March 1, 1950 in Columbus, Georgia, daughter of the late Margaret and Lonnie Freeman, Sr. Mrs. Glaze departed this life on November 5, 2023.

She was a 1968 graduate of South Girard High School. Tanya was a member of the 100 Marching Aristocrats from 1965-1968. She retired after 26 years of service from the Phenix City Board of Education working with special needs children. She attended Tuskegee University.

Tanya confessed her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of the Franchise Missionary Baptist Church.

Other than her parents, Tanya was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Glaze.

She leaves to cherish her memories sons, Andre Jones and Calvin (Stephanie) Glaze; daughters, Tameka Jones, Evelyn Gentry, Debbie Glaze (JB Johnson), and Shannon Jackson; grandchildren, Dorion Gary, Keyshawn Jones, Patrice Glaze-Bryant (Lamar Gaffney), Christopher (Jessica) Gentry, Kamia Glaze, Shirley Glaze, Stephen (Erica) Glaze, Jecorius (Lakeita) Johnson, Dantavious Gentry, MeKal Taylor Gentry, Jared Gentry, DeKeevious Johnson, Jarvavious Johnson and Demarius Ingram; 23 great grandchildren; nieces, Lakesha (Fernando) Baker, N. Lorraine Potter; nephews, Dontray (Danielle) Freeman; brother-in-law, Larry Gray; god daughter, Kim Hughes; god granddaughters, Jakya Carpenter and Jalayla Mitchell; a host of other family and friends.

From babies, we (Lorraine, Kim, Andre,Ivan,Tameka) grew up as family that only out curiosity during my preteens that learned of the connections. You and my mom (Carolyn) were like sisters and talked all of time. My dad (Harry) was the irritating brother. Dear Tameka and Andre, I have no words to tell you of my sorrow. Your Mother was my dear friend and is simply irreplaceable. I met your Mom in grade school at Mother Mary Mission (MMM) in Phenix City, Alabama. She was my childhood sweetheart. The funniest memory happened at MMM, when my Valentine's card to your Mom was intercepted by our teacher, Sister Veronica, who was very strict. For punishment, I had to write on the chalk board 50 times what I wrote to your Mom: "Tanya, I love you." May you reflect upon the strength that she possessed to make it to seventy-three years.
