Obituary For Janie Mae Hunter

Mrs. Janie Mae Hunter, 80, of Smiths Station, AL passed Saturday, October 28, 2023 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. EST, Monday, November 6, 2023 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church Motts, AL with Pastor Tommy Davis, pastor, officiating. Burial to follow in Motts Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 2-5 p.m. EST.

Mrs. Janie Mae Hunter was born August 26, 1943 to the late Sonny Spencer and the late Mary Harris in Smiths Station, Alabama.

Mrs. Hunter passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Piedmont Hospital Midtown, Columbus, Georgia.

Janie attended Smiths Station schools, and graduated from South Girard High School. She married Johnny Lee Hunter, Sr. at an early age and they had four children. Janie was retired from Pillowtex where she was employed for over thirty years. Furthermore, she was known affectionately as “The Avon Lady” and loved being around people. Furthermore, Janie loved singing the gospel, and was a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Motts, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Lee Hunter, Sr. and her son, Randy Hunter.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Hunter and Johnny L. Hunter, Jr. of Smiths Station, Alabama; one daughter, Nakia (Darius) Farley of Phenix City, Alabama; grandson, Troy Hunter of Atlanta, Georgia; two devoted sisters-in-Christ, Jessie Mae Phillips of Smiths Station, Alabama and Sadie Mae Gary of Motts, Alabama as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
