Kenneth M Houston

Kenneth Maurice Houston was born on July 29, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois to the union of the late Billie T. and Betty Houston. Kenneth was the second child of three children. Kenneth was affectionately known as “Lil Man”. Ken accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Christian Greater Rock M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Thomas A. Douglas. Kenneth was affectionately known as “Lil Man or Kenny” growing up on the Chicago’s westside in the Abla Homes, Kenneth where he attended John M. Smyth Elementary School. Kenneth also attended Westinghouse and Cregier High Schools graduating in 1984 from Cregier High School. Kenneth was on the wrestling teams at both schools. Kenneth was also enrolled in the ROTC program during all four years of high school making the honorable decision to follow his father’s footsteps and enlist in the United States Army. This was one of Kenneth’s greatest achievements where he was honored and proud to be a soldier and serve his country. Kenneth traveled extensively the world during his military career. Kenneth earned various achievements and awards in the military and while stationed in Mannheim, Germany, that is where he developed his love of driving trucks. Kenneth was married a few times during his life. Kenneth was truly a ladies' man. Kenneth was an all-around guy and unforgettable. He was truly a force to be reckoned with. Kenneth loved his children, grandchildren, family, and friends and would often act like he was the oldest of his siblings Derek and Tonya. Kenneth loved karate movies and listening to music. Kenneth had various jobs…Kenneth started working at the young age of 13 with his Uncle Larry Mitchell at Red Top Parking. Kenneth worked at the Chicago Housing Authority-Cadre Program, and Insurance Companies and finally returned to his passion of driving trucks. Kenneth was an owner-operator and then went on to work for a few trucking companies until finally finding his home at J.B. Hunt where he adored everyone and was adored by his J.B. Hunt work family for the last 10-plus years. However, God called Kenneth unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct 10, 2023, at 5:00 a.m. as he was heading to his place of employment at J.B. Hunt at which this time, Kenneth answered God’s call to join his beloved parents Billie T. and Betty Houston, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, cousins and friends in Heaven. Kenneth leaves to cherish his memory: Sons, Jermaine Houston of Phoenix, Arizona; Darius Fields and Brandon Fields, of Chicago, Illinois. Daughters Brittney Houston-Rodgers (Marcus) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kadijah Houston of St. Paul, Minnesota. Two granddaughters: Ka’Lynn and Ariyanna. One grandson: Josiah, One sister Tonya Houston (Byron); One brother, Derek Houston; Three nieces; Tylisha, Tasia, and Tabyri. Aunts, Delores (Larry) Shields, Patricia McTiller, Linda Mitchell, Sylvia Anderson, Cynthia Mitchell(James), Queen Cooper all of Chicago, Illinois, Lonnie Houston, Martha Sibley (McKinley), Dorothy McDuffy, Lillie B. Hamilton all of Inverness, MS. Two Uncles: Michael Mitchell of North Little Rock, AR and Calvin Mitchell; Special friends Carla, Dontae, Nija, Corey, Betty, Gayle, and other relatives, his J.B. Hunt work family as well his beloved birds and fishes.
