Richard Len Sturdivant better known as “Len” son of the late Harvie L. Sturdivant and the late Minnie Lee Cash, was born February 19, 1948, in Anson County, North Carolina. He peacefully departed this life Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Carolina Medical Center Main, Charlotte, North Carolina.
He accepted Christ at an early age at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Peachland, North Carolina. Later joined his Wife, Dotsie in fellowship at Walker’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wingate, North Carolina. Richard retired after 34 years at Union Roofing of Monroe, North Carolina as supervisor with Blake Wiggins. Prior to worked for Wayne Gaye of Marshville, North Carolina; Warne Edwards of Marshville, North Carolina; Holly Farms of Monroe, North Carolina. Richard was a great provider to his family.
Richard is preceded in death by one sister, Dura Mae Hall and one son-in-law, Joseph Barksdale.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories with his loving Wife of 55 years, Dotsie Sturdivant of Peachland, North Carolina, five children, Antonio Sturdivant (April) of Wadesboro, North Carolina; Minister Selinda Barksdale of Peachland, North Carolina; Vincent Sturdivant (Shavonia) of Wingate, North Carolina; Rachel Coxe (Kelvin) of Polkton, North Carolina; Richard Sturdivant of Peachland, North Carolina; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; Special daughter Vanessa Lowery of Pageland, South Carolina; two God Daughters, Janie Wright (Jerry) of Peachland, North Carolina; Vanessa Lowery of Pageland, South Carolina; siblings: Pastor Hartford Sturdivant (Lea) of Wadesboro, North Carolina; Dr. Mary Burns (Special brother-in-law Louis) of Peachland, North Carolina; Jimmy Sturdivant (Eva) of Wingate, North Carolina, Katherine Sturdivant of Monroe, North Carolina, Judy Sturdivant of Monroe, North Carolina; Millie Sturdivant of Wingate, North Carolina; Morris Sturdivant of Monroe, North Carolina; Melvin Sturdivant of Peachland, North Carolina; Terry Miller of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Joseph Hall of Wingate, North Carolina; two special brothers-in-Christ James Deese of Monroe, North Carolina and Blake Wiggins of Monroe, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Special reared grandchildren Nicholas Burns, Randall Sturdivant, and Kelvin “DaShun” Coxe (Shun).
The Homegoing Services will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, 2:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be at Walker Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Wingate, North Carolina.
The Sturdivant Family will greet family and friends on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 1:30-2:00pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel.
The public viewing will be on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 from 5:00-6:00pm at Smith Funeral Home.
