Obituary For Billy Smith

Mr. Billy Smith departed this life on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Atrium Hospital in Shelby, NC. He was born on April 10, 1943, in Clevland County, NC to the late Jennie Mae Eaves Smith and Robert Cecil Smith.

Billy was a long-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, NC, where he served as a Lay Leader, Trustee, Choir member, Usher Board member and Parsonage Committee member.

Billy was a member of the D.A. McKay 584 Lodge as a Worshipful Master in Kings Mountain, NC and Masonic Lodge of Gastonia, NC as a Consistory 32nd degree.

Billy Smith, affectionately called Uncle Billy by many, was a jack of all trades. He was very talented and could build or repair almost anything. He loved cars and was adept at repairing them. He was the ultimate jokester, always smiling and having an infectious laugh. He had a heart of gold and loved his family. He was a husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, mason, preacher and friends to many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Hattie Quinn Smith; his brothers Robert Lee Smith and Joseph Smith; his sisters Mary Helen Smith Cliette Houey, Betty Smith Pagan, Margie Ree Smith and his stepmother Ethel Mae Young Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memories to his son Aaron Smith and wife Selma, (grandchildren: Aaron Smith II and Candice Smith); children of his deceased sister, Betty, whom he raised as his own: Tony Pagan, Darryl Pagan and wife Frances, Robert Louis Pagan (grandchildren: Nicole Weathers, Deonna Pagan, and Brittany Pagan), Jackie Pagan Hush (grandchildren: Jonathon Hopper and LaVar Hopper) and Julius Pagan (grandchild, Julian Pagan); one sister, Mary Ann Smith Stiles of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers, David Smith of Norwalk, CT and Herbert Daniels of Kings Mountain, NC; sister-in-law, Louise Stanford Broadnex of Bridgeport, CT and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain, NC. Burial will take place at Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will friends from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church and other times at 1050 Barnett Drive, Kings Mountain, NC. To the family of Brother Billy smith: I am deeply sorry to hear about the passing of your love one . Billy was.married to my cousin. Him and I were church members at st Paul united Methodist church in Kings mountain, where we both was working in the church.
