Ms. Brenda Diane Christine Gough, 70, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Piedmont Hospital in Augusta, GA. She graduated from Archer High School in Atlanta, GA and was not a stranger to providing for her immediate and extended family.
In her earlier years, she worked as a manager for Lord & Taylor Department Store, as a chef for the Omni International Hotel, as an at-home childcare provider for her daughter as well as military families, and ultimately as a cook for the U.S. Army Dining Facility at Fort Leonard Wood, MO before retiring in 2014.
In 1994, Brenda left Atlanta and the life she knew to help provide childcare for her grandson while her daughter began her military career. Unbeknownst to her, she’d found her passion. She went on to become a certified family childcare provider through the Army Military Training Certification Program which she later transferred to a state certification in order to start her own childcare business. She provided outstanding care and service to military and personal family and friends for over fifteen years. For over twenty-one years, Brenda enjoyed traveling alongside her daughter to multiple military duty assignments from Fort Gordon, GA to the Pentagon, D.C. to Schofield Barracks, HI to Fort Leonard Wood, MO. She eventually relocated back to Georgia to be closer to family.
Brenda’s legacy will be cherished by her daughter, Waukemsha Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Markesie Montgomery, Monique Huitt (Clint), Marcus Kirkpatrick, DeVonte Baity, Malieka Kirkpatrick, Derick Anglin, and Destiny Kirkpatrick; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Wadden Elaine Smith and Tracy Ann Smith; and a host of close relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 28, 2023, in the chapel at Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Friday, October 27, 2023, at Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home, 3618 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, GA. (706) 790-8858.
