Mr. Willie Leon Johnson

Passed 10/17/2023

Willie Leon Johnson, affectionately known as “Mullet” was born November 27, 1953, in Ochlocknee, Georgia, to the late Minister Odis Johnson and Pastor Overseer Jeria Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Johnson.

He received his education from the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, having attended Holmes Elementary School and Washington Terrace. He graduated from Miami Carol City Senior High School in 1971. After graduation, he went to Brekenwood Job Corps, and upon completing the Job Corps, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, serving with honor and distinction, and receiving an honorable discharge.

Upon completing his service with the United States Marines, he secured employment as a heavy equipment operator with SeaBee Construction and also worked at Crandon Drug Store in Miami, Florida.

In 1981, he relocated to North Carolina, where he worked for the City of Charlotte for three years. He later settled in High Point, NC, and spent many years working with Rea Construction until he retired due to health issues.

After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with his wife until a disability prevented him from doing so. He always had a great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh, so there was never a dull moment when he was around.

Mullet memories are cherished by his wife, Barbara Johnson of the home; a son, Terrence Morgan of High Point, NC; Micheal Bennefield of Moultrie, Georgia; sisters, Deloris Meadows of Miami Garden, Florida, and Adrian Samuals of Chicago, Illinois; brother, James Johnson of Miami Gardens, Florida; granddaughters, Sierra Morgan of Greensboro, NC and Zarria Morgan of Winston Salem, NC; great-granddaughter, Diviona Little of Lexington, NC; grandson, Reco Baskins of Cheraw, SC; sister-in-law, Mimi Whitner of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, James Whitner (Carolyn) of Greensboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Though he is no longer with us, Mullet’s memories will live on through those he touched during his time here.
