Obituary For Michael R. Hairston

On Thursday, October 12, 2023, Michael Hairston 68, of Martinsville, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Alexandria, LA on August 12, 1955, the son of the late Pete Hairston, and the late Rosella Tatum Hairston.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by two brothers, Frederick Hairston, Sr., and Ronald Hairston.

Michael was a graduate of Martinsville High School and was employed by Bladensburg Barber School for many years. He was owner and operator of several barbershops.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Montoya Craighead Jeter (James) of Cumming, GA; three grandchildren, Melisha Craighead of Martinsville, VA, Kristofer Craighead of Dillsburg, PA, and Eboni Jeter of Philadelphia, PA; five great-grandchildren; six brothers, Thomas W. Hairston of Washington, DC, James Hairston of Martinsville, VA, Douglas Hairston, Sr. of Maryland, Kevin Hairston of Suitland, MD, Keith Hairston of Oxen Hills, MD, and Mark Campbell of Maryland; two sisters, Anita Smith of Hampton, VA, and Sharon Smith of Washington, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Elder Brooks Tatum, Eulogist. The burial will follow at Tatum Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church, 2070 Mountain View Loop, Stuart, VA. A public viewing will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
