Barbara Jean Henley

Barbara Jean Henley, 92, of Eden, NC passed Monday, October 9, 2023. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2023 at Little Bethlehem Christian Church, 110 Piney Fork Church Road, Eden, NC with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1821 Ashely Loop, Reidsville, NC.

Mrs. Barbara Jean Martin Henley left this earthly home and transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, October 9, 2023, in Eden, NC. She was born to the late Nannie V. Martin and John Martin, Sr. on April 21, 1931, in Rockingham County.

Barbara was a lifelong member of Little Bethlehem Christian Church. She started the church Scholarship Fund in 1990, which is still in place today. Barbara graduated from Douglass High School in 1949. She attended Barber-Scotia College in Concord, NC and later Elon College (University) receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1977. She had a great love for education, especially with children, which led her to work in that field for most of her adult life, lastly at Wentworth School.

Barbara loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren. She had a close relationship with them all. She was known for making them her special pancakes all through the years. Although she faced many health challenges, she was instilled with the Martin strong will and determination which kept her through life’s ups and downs.

She was also preceded in death by brothers; Melvin, Lacy, Vernard and John Martin, Jr., sisters; Lucy Galloway, Lillie Mae Price, Janice Brice and Garnett Rucker.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters; Charlotte M. Joseph (Ryan) of Miami, FL, Sheryl H. Galloway of Eden, NC, son; Timothy W. Henley (Lolita) of Kernersville, NC, grandchildren; MSG Katina James of Vicenza, Italy, Gary Graves of Houston, TX, Chance Galloway and Timisha Henley both of Greensboro, NC, Marquis Hairston of Tampa, FL, Keyshawn Hairston of Fredericksburg, VA, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
