Obituary For Mother Emma Frances Walker

Our beloved Emma Frances Walker went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Sunday, October 1, 2023, after a long illness. She was 78 years old.

She was born on January 15, 1945 in the town of Fairfax, SC to Rosalee and Robert Brooker. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and worshipped at St. Luke Baptist Church. She was educated in Allendale County Public Schools, later adding a seamstress certificate from William H. Maxwell Career and Technical Education High School in Brooklyn.

Mrs. Walker grew up on a farm and was one of 11 children. Even though she was a quiet teen, she was known to have a gift for making people laugh. She could tell a joke with the best of them. Sometimes she would laugh so hard, she'd bring herself to tears.

She met Charlie Thomas Walker Sr. in Junior High School and was sweet on him right away. She loved everything about him - an affinity that years later manifested itself in marriage. The couple moved to Ehrhardt, SC where she helped out at a logging business owned by her husband's family.

After moving to Brooklyn, she still remained true to her Southern roots. She would visit her South Carolina relatives during the big holidays, a testament to how much she loved her family. She enjoyed cooking fried corn, as far back a friends could remember. And she could put her foot in a sweet potato pie.

Her jobs in New York included a stint at Swissport USA at Kennedy Airport and working for many years as a domestic in several homes where she was cherished like a member of the family.

Mrs. Walker was a revered Church Mother of the Charity Baptist Church of Christ, where she also faithfully served as a deaconess. Members of her Brooklyn Church Family - led by Bishop Richard Wheelous..mourn her passing, but have faith that they will see her again at the right hand of the Father, free to walk around heaven.

She is survived by her daughter, New York State Assemblywoman Latrice M. Walker (Brooklyn, NY), brothers Timothy Lee Brooker (Fairfax, SC) and Lewis Brooker (Fairfax, SC) a dozen grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, foster children and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Thomas Walker Sr.; parents Rosalee Brooker and Robert Brooker; baby daughter Linda Walker; sons Jerome Brooker, Charlie Thomas Walker Jr. and Mark Walker; sisters Mary Alice Ritter, Minnie Lee Badger, Josephine Marshall and Leola Preacher; and brother Albert Smalls, Robert Lee Brooker, Johndell Brooker and Perstine Brooker.

Mrs. Walker will be greatly missed by all
