Ann has always been a friend and sister to me, a favorite aunt to my son Christopher and always there when I needed her to babysit for me when I needed to work nights or didn't feel well. She, her sisters and brothers, her mother and even cousins made me a part of their family from the beginning and I will never forget that. Love you and I will miss you. So saddened when I heard of the loss of our dear Ann, who was often considered as a sister to me. Of course, knowing the connection that made us cousins is comforting as being around her and the family was like having another immediate family and home. Just loved sitting on the edge of the porch banister that faced Morehead Ave, claiming cars ("that's my car") that we imagined we owned. Our dear Ann loved family and friends. No matter how much time had passed since seeing one another, Ann made it feel as if no time had passed at all. Loving the life experienced with her. Praying God's peace and comfort to her children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family members and friends impacted by her life. --Rose Mary Cole Howell

My deepest sympathy to the family. I worked with Ann in Radiology at Duke hospital. She had a sweet spirit with a bright smile along with it. My memories of Ann will forever be close to my heart. We had plenty of fun and laughter through the years of working together. Just remember God is always close and to be absent from the body is be present with the Lord!

Our hearts are heavy along with the Smith family in the passing of Ann. Our memories expand decades from early teen years until now. We grew up together in a neighborhood of Durham known as the "Bottom." We were original members of the Junior Operation Breakthrough that was located in an old mansion on Morehead Avenue before it was torn down due to Urban Renewal. We shared dreams of careers, family, and of rising above living in the "Bottom." Even though living in the "Bottom"was some of the best years of our lives because it granted us experiences and friendships that lasted us a lifetime. Ann was a magnificent person, she greeted everyone with a big smile, I loved her big hugs, and loving heart. She will be truly missed. With sympathy for your loss, may God grant you peace. Fay Southerland & Family, Gwendolyn G. Chavis, Regina H. Lipscomb, Mae M. Duffy, Lottie M. McLean, respectfully.

Praying your comfort in the passing of Ann Smith, who was a co-worker in Duke Radiology. She truly was a one of a kind with a big heart, smile and stylish attire. Prior to her retirement, we chatted about how she was going to enjoy her family, friends and life. Remember the good and funny times you shared. Know that she is not alone. God as well as her loved ones, who have gone on, welcomed her. She is at peace and praying that you will seek Him for continued strength and peace in Jesus Name.
