Calvin Louis Kella, better known to friends and family as “Tony” was born on January 14, 1956 to the late Ezra Kellam and Francis Webster Kellam. His earthly journey ended on Friday September 15, 2023 after a long illness surrounded by family and friends when God called him home.
Calvin attended Stokes County schools. He loved playing basketball and while attending South Stokes High he played all four years. Although he loved playing the game and was very good at it, that was not his life's dream. After graduating high school in 1974, he went on to further his education at NC A&T State University and upon completion he was commissioned through the U. S. Air Force Reserve Office Training Corps in May of 1978 and entered active duty in June 1978 in the supply career at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Subsequent assignments included tours at: Canadian Force Base, Bagotville, Canada, Keflavik, Naval Air Station, Iceland, Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command, Wright Patterson AFB, OH, Defense Personnel Support Center, Philadelphia, PA, The 89th Supply Squadron at Andrews AFB, MD, Headquarters USAFE at Ramstein, AB-Germany and the 86th Supply Squadron at Ramtein AB-Germany. He completed Squadron Officer School Correspondence in 1983. He also went on to receive his Master's Degree in Business Administration at Central Michigan University in 1985. Air command & Staff College Correspondence in 1985 and Air War College Correspondence in 1995.
Calvin achieved many goals and received numerous awards but it neve changed the person tht he was always humble and down to earth. Helping anyone who needed it. After 27 years of service to his country he retired and his dream was always to move back home to North Carolina. But he still wasn't finished. He decided to start a new job working for Aerospace in Winston Salem, NC, where he became a warehouse manager and after 15 years he decided to retire for the second time. Calvin had many passions, he loved fishing, he loved working with his hands and being outdoors mowing the lawn, spending time teaching the grandsons something new, but at the end of the day, family was the most important thing to him and he showed us everyday how much he loved us all.
