Obituary For Gloria Louise Ward Anderson

Gloria Louise Ward-Anderson, affectionately known as Baby Louise, graced this world on July 17, 1930, in Jacksonville, FL. She was the cherished and only child of the late Evelyn McCuthorn and Moses Ward. Although life took her on a unique journey, Gloria’s heart remained tethered to her early roots in Jacksonville, Fl., where she lived with her maternal grandmother after her mother’s passing. Growing up as an only child she found a special bond with her late cousins Josie Spicer, and Celestine Sims Stukes, who became her closest confidants and dearest friends.

During her formative years, Gloria relocated to Valdosta, GA, to reside with her loving aunt, Valarie Ward. There she attended Dasher High School and quickly became known for her sharp fashion sense and captivating beauty. Her senior year saw her crowned as Miss Dasher High School, a testament to her grace and charm. After high school, Gloria ventured into a career in service and successfully completed nursing school. She devoted more than three decades of her life to Adel Hospital and South GA Medical Center, providing compassionate healthcare services to countless individuals. Her nursing training not only defined her professional journey but also enabled her to lovingly care for her Aunt Valerie in the comfort of their home until her passing.

Gloria was the proud mother of two sons, Verlon Leon Ward Sr., and the late Curtis Maynard Ward. Her heart and life found the capacity to love even further with her true companion Louis “Andy” Anderson, a partnership that endured until his passing in 1995. Gloria’s spiritual journey was one of deep devotion and early acceptance of Christ. She was a steadfast member of St. Paul AME Church, where her unwavering commitment shone through her active roles in Sunday School, the Usher board, and the Steward Board. Gloria’s commitment extended to the Daughters of the Elks, where she was a faithful member and resolute servant. Known for her cooking and baking, her culinary talents brought joy and warmth to her family gatherings.

Today we remember Gloria with love and gratitude. She leaves behind a legacy and a bounty of memories with her loved ones. Starting with her devoted son, Verlon Leon Ward, and his wife, Donna. Her beloved grandchildren: Verlon Jr. Curtis, and Landon Ward of Miramar, Fl, and Cristopher Wyche (Danika) of Atlanta, GA. Special cousins Dana Shropshire (Dennis); Desirae, and Raegan Bennett; Hercules Spicer; Centralia, Tamira, and Arnel Carey; Veda Stukes, Jennifer Kennedy (Jacksonville, FL.); Danika (Reyes), Reyes III, and Jasai Montelongo (Tampa, FL). Gloria’s memory also lives on in the hearts of a host of other relatives and friends, each touched by her warmth and love. In the tapestry of our lives, Gloria’s presence remains etched in the most beautiful and cherished threads. As we say goodbye to her physical presence, may we hold onto the love, wisdom, and grace she bestowed upon us, finding comfort in the knowledge that her spirit lives on in our hearts.

“Rest in eternal peace, dear Gloria Louise Ward-Anderson. You will forever be missed”.

Home going services for Ms. Gloria Louise Ward Anderson will be held on Saturday, September 16, at 1:00 P. M. at St. Paul A. M. E. Church with Rev. McKenzie pastor and officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
