Obituary For David Linney

David Linney passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, surrounded by the love and support of family and friends.

David grew up in Fairfield, CT and is a graduate of Marietta College. David moved to Milwaukee, WI in the mid-1970’s to work for the Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation, where he created and managed a Patient Financial Assistance Program at hemophilia treatment centers in Milwaukee and throughout WI. He authored over 100 articles on health insurance and bleeding disorders and provided technical assistance to the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF), NHF's Medical and Scientific Advisory Council (MASAC), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

David was an avid badminton player and member of both the Greater Milwaukee Badminton Association and the Midwest Badminton Association and competed in men’s singles and doubles tournaments throughout the Midwest in the 1970’s and 80’s. David also enjoyed playing basketball and would frequently remind his two sons of that “one game in high school where he scored 30 points.” (David also had a sharp sense of humor and an infectious laugh).

In 2016, David and his wife Amy moved to Durham, NC to be closer to family. He spent the last seven years watching his grandchildren grow up and building community with his wonderful neighbors in the Trotter Ridge neighborhood of South Durham.

David is survived by his wife (Amy), two sons (Alan and Walter), their spouses (Kate and Melissa), and three incredible grandchildren (Josie, June, and Fletcher), all whom he loved dearly. David is also survived by nieces Danielle and Sasha, nephew Levi, sister and brother-in-law Myrna and Ira, special cousin Dave, and many dear friends and neighbors.

His family wishes to thank the caring and devoted staff of The Enclave who cared for “Mr. Dave” in the last months of his life. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the Duke Hospice Team who provided support and comfort care up to the day of Dave’s passing.

His family asks that you consider making a donation in his memory to the Michael J Fox Foundation to support research to help find a cure for Parkinsons Disease. Link: http://tribute.michaeljfox.org/tribute-page.php?id=2672&np=true).

Guest Book

My condolences to Dave's family and friends. I knew Dave as a fellow badminton player - a friend and competitor back in the days of our youth. I remember how well liked he by all the players in Wisconsin for his funny and upbeat personality as well as his athletic and determined presence on court. You all would have been so proud to know what a great guy he was.

So sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He will be missed and remembered. He was a quirky guy with a brilliant brain and so much heart to help. No one quite like him. To the family -- thank you for sharing him for all of the years you did in hemophilia. He helped so many. K-Haugstad
