Lois W. Johnson, 90, of Richmond, transitioned on August 12, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, Nathaniel and Georgia Hill; adoring husband, (A.J.) Ashlin J. Johnson, Sr., son, Ashlin J. Johnson, Jr. and sisters, Alice Pennick and Nanny Jackson.
Lois was born on August 21, 1932 in Brunswick County (Alberta), Virginia. She was cherished by her father and his family who raised Lois regally in New Jersey until she returned to Richmond 16 years later, met and married Ashlin Johnson A.J.; where she lived for the remainder of her life.
BLESSED in over 70 years as a member of First African Baptist Church where she faithfully attended Sunday School and worship service. A proud recipient of the prestigious Junior Mother of the Church and the following year Senior Mother of the Church. She served in many organizations while supporting her children with youth activities. Lois loved to travel. Vegas was a favorite along with many cruises and bus trips. Sunday was her favorite day where she welcomed and demonstrated her walk with Christ. Lois committed over 20 years with the Lott Carey Foreign Missions Circle equally matching the love she shared toward her beloved First African Baptist Church Family.
Surviving are her daughters, Lois Rita Johnson and devoted, Maria Johnson Hicks; three grandchildren, Brittney Hicks, Donavin Hicks and Maria Celine Johnson; devoted sister, Mary Hill Cosby; nephews, Randy Hill, James Cosby, Jr. and Robert Pennick; devoted cousins, Alice M. Proctor; Elaine Moore, Jennifer Session, Ernestine Higgins; dedicated brother-in-law, James Johnson; Goddaughter, Wanda Cook; Godson, Al Hutchinson; a host of other loving relatives, neighbors and friends to include devoted bestie's, Ellen Hutchinson and Tony Carey, Samantha Piatt, Tracey Oliver and Robin Oliver Hill.
Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2023. Homegoing and birthday celebration will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 21 at First African Baptist Church, 2700 Hanes Avenue. Rev. Rodney Waller officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
