Arthur Lee Harris

Arthur Lee Harris was born on October 1, 1928. He was the only son of the late Harvey & Viola (nee Day) Harris. Arthur, along with his parents and four sisters, lived in Mt. Meigs, Alabama. Arthur confessed Christ at an early age at Antioch Baptist Church in Mt. Meigs. The family later moved their membership to Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Mt. Meigs.

From 1950 to 1952 and from 1954 to 1959, Arthur served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sargent.

In 1953, Arthur met Lottie Faulkner of Autaugaville, AL. They were married on May 15, 1957. To this union, five daughters were born. Arthur and Lottie were married for 57 years at the time of Lottie’s passing on August 21, 2014.

After Arthur’s military service, he and his wife resided in Montgomery. Alabama. Together, they joined Morning Pilgrim Baptist Church. Arthur was a faithful member of Morning Pilgrim for over 60 years. For many years he served as the bible teacher for Circle #6.

From 1959 to 1966, Arthur was employed at the VA Hospital in Tuskegee. From 1966 to 1990, Arthur worked as a civil service employee at Maxwell Air Force Base. By 1968, the Harris Family was a family of five. Quality family life was very important to Arthur & Lottie. In 1968, Arthur took on a second job in the food service department at St. Margaret Hospital and worked there on weekends. This enabled Lottie to be at home full-time with the growing family. Arthur worked at St. Margaret Hospital from 1968 to 1995.

It was on the evening of Tuesday, August 8, 2023, that Arthur departed this life leaving loved ones to cherish fond memories: five daughters, Gale Daniels of Montgomery, AL; Kathy Harris Green of Olmsted Township, OH; Sandra Harris of Montgomery, AL; Jennifer Collins (Darrell) of Prattville, AL and Michelle Harris-Jackson (Albert) of Newnan, GA; six grandchildren, Jasmine Hunter (Scottie) of Baton Rouge, LA; Jocelyn Daniels of Montgomery, AL; Megan Green of Parma, OH; Jeremiah West of Newnan, GA, Darren and Danielle Collins of Prattville, AL; two great-grandchildren, Niyah Daniels of Montgomery, AL and Jason Hunter of Baton Rouge, LA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and devoted friends.

Arthur was preceded in death by his siblings: Beatrice Henderson, Thressa Fields, Lottie Greene, and Essie Gould.

A public viewing will be Friday, August 18, 2023, from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Morning Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at 11 a.m. followed by the celebration of life service at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Eastwood Memorial Gardens.
