Obituary For Mr. Robert Savage

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Savage, 76, of Orangeburg, SC, will be held 10:00am, Thursday, August 10, 2023, at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Orangeburg, with interment to follow at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. Rev. Todd A. Brown is officiating.

Mr. Savage will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Robert “Rob” Savage was born April 1, 1947 in Barnwell County, South Carolina to John and Susie Savage. He passed away on August 2, 2023, peacefully in his home, surrounded by love.

Robert was educated in the public schools of Barnwell County and was a 1967 graduate of Kelly Edwards High School. He then served proudly in the United States Army, where he earned a Purple Heart in 1970. Following his honorable service, he attended Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, earning an associate’s degree in 1972. He was employed by AYP as a Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement.

Robert accepted Christ at an early age and held membership at St. Peters Baptist Church, Elko, South Carolina and later New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Orangeburg, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving stepmother, Irene Savage; and aunt, Mattie Savage Harley who both reared him and supported him throughout their lives; siblings: Johnnie Mae Simmons, Janie Jones, Mildred Savage, Clayree Linder, Levi Brown; beloved brother-in-law; two grandsons: Branson Sanders and Alshaquire Duval; and his beloved granddaughter, Mrs. Jordan Alexis Bowden.

Rob is survived by his five children: Yolanda Duval, Simona Young, Elvira East (Chris), Gretta Savage-Hill and Kerick Sanders; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; grandson-in-law, Thomas Bowden Jr.; siblings: Cleopatra "Cleo"Dixson, Vernell "Jenny" Savage, John (Dessie) Savage, Gloria (Glory) Savage, Charles (Carolyn) Savage and Retired LTC Deacon Roger (Janice) Savage. one uncle, Roosevelt "Bip" (Dorothy) Savage; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special cousins: Linda Corry, Quincy Harley and Hosey Savage Jr. Tyrone Moseley; special friends: Booker T. Toler, Laverne (Larry) Smith, Pastors Vernon Middleton and Thomas Sims, Roosevelt Hezekiah, Ronald Sumpter, Willie Faust, Leroy Doby, Howard Bush who served with him in Vietnam, Fred Small and Pernell Weathersbee; sons of his heart: Johnny Disher and Roosevet Berry; and sisters of his heart: Hattie Moseley, Beverly Ashley; and sister-in-law of the heart, Fyphine Mickle.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 1:00pm - 6:00pm.
