Mr. James B. Sellers, 78, of Phenix City, AL passed Monday, July 24, 2023 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. EST, Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL with Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor and Presiding Elder James Q. Smith, Sr., MOCO District, officiating. Interment to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 2-5 p.m. EST at St. Paul C.M.E. Church (93 Bleeker Road, Phenix City, AL 36870) and Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. EST at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL.

Mr. James B. Sellers was born on March 6, 1945 to the late Tillman Sellers and Love Sellers-Hardge in Phenix City, AL (Bailey Hill)

He was educated in the Phenix City School System, attending Susie E. Allen Elementary and graduating from South Girard High School in 1963. He went on to graduate from Southern Union Community College, Opelika, AL.

James was a dedicated member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church in Crawford, AL. He began his leadership role early as a bold, God fearing young man, serving as a Stewart and Trustee. He served as President of the Trustee Board at St. Paul C.M.E. Church. He always took his positions seriously and made himself available to aide many churches in the Montgomery, Phenix City, Opelika District.

He was a proud Vietnam War Veteran receiving decorated honors including the Bronze Star Award. James was a member of the prestigious organization “United to Save Ourselves” in Phenix City,AL He served as president for over 25 years. This organization was formed to help the youth in the community become productive members of society.

He worked for the Michelin Tire Company in Opelika, AL retiring after 35 years. He served as Division Chairman of the local union for 12 years. A risk taker and leader, James traveled extensively to various seminars, conferences and informative meetings to add to his repertoire, allowing him to better serve fellow employees, while protecting their employment rights.

James will forever live in the hearts of his wife of 50 years, Juanita J. Sellers; one son, Jason (Altonece) Sellers; one granddaughter, Jameson; one sister, Laura (Tommie) Allen; two aunts, Izola Sanders and Sarah Daniel; one uncle, Benjamin (Joyce) Phillips; one sister-in-law, Cynthia Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
