Mr. Demetrius Shelby, 47 years old, transitioned to an eternal rest while at the SECU UNC Hospice Facility in Pittsboro, NC on July 16, 2023. He was loved by his mother, Maggie Givens, of D’Iberville, MS; his father, David Shelby, and stepmother, Avis Shelby, of Yonkers, NY; his loving daughter, Makiyah, of Kenly, NC; his sister, LaMonica Shelby, and niece, Trinity, of Durham, NC; and a grand host of other relatives that includes a paternal grandfather, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He lived much of his life in the Raleigh-Durham area but also spent time in Norcross, GA and Biloxi, MS. His first love was his daughter, Makiyah, who he lovingly called baby girl. He loved spending time with his daughter, family, extended family who he considered his people, and writing spoken word poetry. He also loved talking about sports and old school hip hop with anyone who was up for a debate. One of his most treasured memories was the Valentine’s Father and Daughter dance that he attended with his daughter. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and time.

You will be forever missed, forever loved, and forever remembered bro. I'm saddened that we won't get to watch your Cowboys vs. my Commanders. However, know that the times we shared are treasured by me. You fought the good fight bro, and now that you rest in heaven you've won. You left your mark on the people you crossed paths with, and for that we are all better bro. RIP Meat! 🙏🏾
